In srping the N face of N peak has ~1/2 pitch of water ice (the Hourglass). Complete guess as to whether it gets filled over during the winter. Might make a ski descent a touch gripping . . . (it has crossed my mind)

You're never going to convince the Campbell government of anything by shaming them into thinking about the long-term social benefit of something like the preservation of wilderness. Yeah, the best argument here is not that the proposed application will infringe upon ski-mountaineers, but that it infringes upon someone already making money off the tenure, and that Mike's business could take a hit when ski mountaineers turn their attention to, say, Monarch when the Wadd area becomes known for hot-tubbing and sled-riding big rollers.

I hope I am right, but from a common sense point of view, I don't see how this operation is going to fly. You've got a helicopter parked on a yacht in an obscure inlet with jetskis and snowmobiles at the ready . . . riiiiggghhhht.

Road currently closed ~55km from Hozomeen. Most years you'd want a snowmobile . . .

I found the contrast between Coloradan and Slovenian discourse most entertaining: "Okay what you want me to say. We had good climbing. Oh, and the weather good . . . are you done with your spiritual movie now?

And what's with the Mule Voice? This contrived UhUHuhUhUhuHuHuh thing going on. That and the glaring lack of structure in most songs on the radio these days drives me nuts. You know why there are regular progressions in good music? Cos you brain likes it, it's like doing math without ever realizing it.

Media glorification of mountaineering accidents

Cascade Volcano Syndrome. If we were truly concerned about climber deaths on Hood we would be looking for a cure. I say get Bill and Melinda to set up a lab and do some trials with Taun Taun stem cells. -
While I have no sympathy for her, she represents an interesting idea in that folks in these situations forgo having kids due to the financial strain.

Would be cool to be at Marble and see both ice climbers and rock climbers depending on which way you looked. -

30M, 8MM ropes: Beal Rando Vs. Edelweiss Discover
jordop replied to Kevin_Matlock's topic in The Gear Critic
This is because Beal actually tested the Rando rope on one strand given that it was designed only to be used as such --Eldelweiss used two stands. I was looking at the Beal deal the other day. -
20% off of Arcteryx at US Outdoor Store in PDX
jordop replied to gt5816v's topic in Local Gear Shops
Don't forget about the Factory Outlet store in North Vancouver. I know you're in PDX, but it's worth keeping in mind if you got the dead bird disease. They got crap there at about 80% off. Some of it IS crap though, but I just picked up the full gamma bibs for $150 cdn ... -

How are the guy's kneecaps doin? -
While I wait for elephantitis to grow my steep snow balls to the size of Don's, I will continue to carry pickets. I would like to think that my tools are just as good, but my layman's observations tell me they are too curvy and bendy to really distribute forces well. It's a lot easier to bail off a $15 piece of aluminium and maybe there's a lesson here . . .

Yeah, Don! So after reading this insanity this afternoon I felt so lazy sitting behind the desk that I decided to go for a big run up in the Seymour. Pulled some major ligament deal in my hip and one whole side of my body is wrecked. All your fault Don!!!!
