I'm an idiot, but I don't want a lobotomy. Any ideas?
-
No I do not think so. Plan on drinking out of a cup or bringing something to cover the bottle though. I'm probably going to go down early, I've got a tent that needs seam sealing and I have no place at home to set it up so I thought I might do it on the beach and try and score a fire ring. The bringing of large pallets is encouraged. [ 06-10-2002, 02:15 PM: Message edited by: allison ]

You want to sell me your lightly used Megamid, don't you?

I have the Marmot Hardshell, which is a beefier (eg hotter in the summer) version of their Nutshell tent. It's been a rock solid sort of 3 and a half season tent for several seasons of use. If you can find one of these (I don't think Marmot makes them any more) I think it would suit your needs quite well. It's not super lightweight, about 4 and a half pounds, but it's certainly no eight pounder, either. It's free-standing, 3 poles, and easy to put up. Roomy enough for a guy over 6' too. Backpacker magazine puts out a Gear Guide every Feb or March, and they go over all of that stuff there. I'm betting they have the info at their website too.

I pretty much do that every year, excpet for two summers ago when I took seven months off. Doesn't everyone? Seems like everyone I know manages to do this pretty regularly. Work sucks!

There is an interesting discussion about growing pot going on on Fresh Air on NPR right now...94.9 or streaming at www.kuow.org

Everything I have read about chlorine would suggest that it's not going to get the business done. I'd love to chuck my water filter in the interest of saving weight, but Giardia and Crypto (which has no cure) both sound pretty unappealing to me. Aqua Mira and other products with the same chemical makeup (chlorine dioxide??) have not been proven yet (to my satisfaction) to be both safe and effective. I wonder if anyone has had luck with those newish squeezy sports bottle filter things. It's like a sports bottle, you fill it up with dirty water, then it goes thru the filter as you drink it. Looks like it would work fine for drinking but less so for making water for other uses, like cooking.

Nice TR, Mike. Surprised to find such a triumpant ascent in 'Spray' rather than in Trip Reports, where such a gem should be archived.

Went down to OR, found a women's version that fit better and was a little cheaper, bought those instead, you should have no prob selling thoes gloves at that price though.

If you hate bivy sacks like I do, the one man version of the SD Clip Flashlight (called the Light Year) is a reasonable alternative, and while not as light as a bivy, it's reasonably light, and you can find them on sale for just over $100 sometimes.

Got to second the vote for Tasty Bites Indian Food. A little heavy, so you eat it on the first day out. Add chicken and you really have a feast. sometimes I think I'll nver get lightweight and tasty in the same sentence. All the good stuff weighs. I'd like to add here that Dru seems to have a liking for canned peaches, but that may be more of a camping sort of thing. I tried to do some stuff with a food dehydrator last year but it was all sort of nasty. Anyone have good luck with this?

No thanks!

No I'll go down to the OR store and try them on so I can make sure that is the right size. Either today or tomorrow I'll do that. Which liners? [ 06-06-2002, 02:21 PM: Message edited by: allison ]

Ramuta's in Seattle is the bomb. Not sure if they normally do the mail order thing, but I would not be surprised if they would do it on request. They do a beautiful job, even if you wait too long to get it done! I think they do a way nicer job than the other shop in town.

OK, somebody boot this guy. Agent Orange was not enough, so we get this too? I vote for permanent removal, not just an avatar boot.

Biggest climbing accomplishment last year: don't think I had any, but if I was out there, I was having fun doing the climbing and the socializing, getting some fresh air, and enjoying the level of focus and commitment that climbing requires. Biggest accomplisment last year: A lot of people saw or even bought art I made, and it made them happy and made their lives better.....At my day job, we made some good or even maybe great theatre, and people were happier for having seen it. At the risk of getting flamed here, I enjoy climbing, I do think it is a selfish pursuit at its core. It doesn't give me the pleasure to climb that it does to do some other things I do because of this. It's still fun though.

Maybe I've been lucky, but I've been there on many a weeknight, drinking beer with other adults out in the open, had the cops check us out and not had a problem. Never even had to "talk my way" out of anything... And no, I've not been of legal drinking age for ten years, you are right, it is closer to fifteen.

I live here in Ballard and have been drinking at GG year round for 10 years or so. If you are of legal drinking age the cops don't really care. They do ask that you put it in a cup or put a bag over your beer bottle. Totally mellow, no problem! Love this idea, and we could do plan B for bad weather....

I think you are confusing 'trench foot' with what my people call 'jungle rot'. It's from bathing in your own foot-sweat, and causes the look you describe. I got it once and had a hell of a time getting rid of it, cortisone cream and sandals for like two weeks. Miserable.

If that price includes shipping I'd be interested in the gloves.

If someone will hold him down, I'll be glad to put another one in there so the first one will not be lonely.
