Wondering if anyone's been to the Lost World Plateau in the last week or so via the drainage that dumps into Nada Lake. Please be timely, as we leave tomorrow. There any snow up there at the pass/entry into Temple Canyon? [ 08-06-2002, 11:28 PM: Message edited by: allison ]

Anybody find some stuff in the bush to the left of the belay at the top of the first pitch of Magic Bus?
-
I s that "Ice" or "Icefall"? I might be looking for an "Icefall", 52 L capacity if I could find one for the right price....

I think you're safe with acrylic paints from the art supply store. The stuff probably won't last forever, but there's not going to be any kind of meltdown/chemical reaction from applying acrylics to a plastic hat. You'd be ten times worse getting some errant DEET on your lid. Don't sue me, but it will work. And just one more thing:

One of my partners is a double rope guy (hi Dave), so I've just started using a set, and I pretty much manage to tangle them up every time I rap. They are a lot tanglier, and they do stretch a TON if you're used to a regular 10.5. I'm already able to give a nice clean belay with them though, and it sho'is convenient having all of that rope with you when it's time to get down. All in all, they're pretty cool. Dave forgot to mention that the Trango ATC, the funny looking one with the asym design, grabs the ropes a lot better than a typical ATC. You get a hot brake hand rapping with a regular one. Anyone feel like hearing a little tune? I do. [ 08-06-2002, 10:53 PM: Message edited by: allison ]

DFA: Kubiak is a riot. Is he back in this part of the world? did he finish med school? I'd love to clip some bolts with him yelling at me about the sequence, he's the only guy who really knows how to do that right. For a guy who climbs the grades he does, he's got no attitude. Plus he's been nice enuf to put up a rope on an .11 for me (and take it down when I'm done flailing) on occasion. And Jon, sorry, I didn't mean to suggest that it was "our" board, I guess you have suggested that it sort of belongs to all of us even though you and Tim pay for us to play, and maybe, well, anyway, I'm sorry.

It's on the east side of Phinney Avenue between 61st and 62nd. Hope that's enough to get you there!

Forgive me for interrupting, but I just want to Aaah.

Feel free to send me a PM edjamacating me on motorcycle culture. I'm sure that you have heard secondhand way more than I know.

Oh, yeah, right thanks DogBabe. You are most excellent moderating type. May I raise the Fremont Bridge in your honor. Local ethics rule the debate. If your local area doesn't have any ethics, get people who climb the rock together to figure that stuff out, and if that doesn't work, write the guidebook, and then you get to make stuff up! And can I just add one thing:
-
I know this is wrong, but I'm going to post so I can do this again:
-
Michelle, spare us your second hand rumors about what you heard from your dad about motorcyclists at a stoplight and focus on the 'trad/sport/we're all climbers' thing we've got here. It's all about that right now, in this thread. I was trying to make a point.

Bend Brewery is the far superior establishment, and I'm not just saying that to get Tim to reinstall the chatroom. The last time I was at Deschutes it was a notably disappointing experience, despite being in the company of two of my favorite gentlemen at that moment. BBC's chow is better and cheaper. For a real treat, don't miss my new favorite place in Bend, the Bendistillery. Those drinks....su-WEET! As for tomorrow, nice troll ChucK, trying to get the drinking back over in your 'hood again. Seems like it's time to have it over in Ballard-ish again, the Zoo was more recent, can I suggest we try the new and improved Park Pub? I was there last week, and it's a cooler place than it was before, and the food is really yum now. It's still smallish, but not crowded when I was there. And for no particular reason, I just want to say this:

I broke one last December, and boy, do I feel your pain!! My doc said no climbing for six solid weeks, and he said climbing was pretty much the worst thing in the world for it. You want to have a nagging injury? Jump back in after a couple of weeks. These things need some serious rest time. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but them's the facts as I know them. If it makes you feel any better, I was out on Lake Washington Friday night, in stiff wind and tons of hydroplane CHOP, and moving back from foredeck to helm, passing over a winch handle, we hit some of that CHOP, and it tossed me onto the protruding handle, bruising the beejezus out of my tailbone. Now it's a commonly known fact that I am a clutz, but this little sailing impalement, well, even I wouldn't have predicted that could happen! It doesn't actually hurt that much though, unless of course I move. Or breathe. Someday I hope to form my own boutique insurance company for clutzy people like myself! HalleluYA! Some somewhat positive discourse about sport climbing! Yahoo!! Welcome to our little cesspool, Dr. Flash! I rode a motorcycle for many years, and I used to hear this same sort of crap from Harley riders because I rode what they called many things, my least favorite probably being a 'rice rocket.' I heard a lot of derisive remarks, and didn't always get the 'courtesy wave' from them on the road, but you know what? At the end of the day, everyone had had a pretty similar experience, and everyone had fun doing something exciting and challenging. Live and let live, baby!

Aww, TG, that's nonsense, I'm not pissed at all? I mean you are charging me so much for the thing I really should be pissed, but hey, what's the point! I just hope you don't get too pissed that I can't go get it til next week, now that it's in Porkland.

I'd characterize it as 'ground-clearance envy', and it seems to run rampant among the outdoors set, especially us Subaru drivers. I swear, great cars, not enough ground clearance! Dang! And FWIW I wasn't suggesting that minivans and SUVs are manufactured the same way, heck I'm no gearhead, it was more about social commentary. Maybe you missed the nuance.

MF 206's original post was obviously a troll. Come on gang, didn't you see all of those loaded words and phrases? And while we're having a silly conversation about things we don't like, let me just say this: I really don't care for the anti-sport climbing attitude! We're all out there doing variations on the same activity, who the hell cares if the style of another person's climbing isn't the same as yours! Man I get so sick of the ELITIST attitude!! PS. Icegirl, I knew Espresso would get better once she hung out with people more!

A bolt every 6.67 feet? Dang that's even too many bolts for me and quite frankly, that's saying something!!

Well, Caveman, you'd damn well better be dressed up as a soccer mom too in that case. [ 08-02-2002, 11:03 AM: Message edited by: allison ]

SUVs are pretty much just minivans with better outfits. I hate those people too, and not just because I could make better use of all of that wasted ground clearance.

Hey Hambone, can we assume that you have retrieved your handle? Those admin guys can do wonders with passwords and such. Answer me this: How's life at the gym treating you these days? Where was the last Pub Club that you attended? That oughtta be enough to square us away with who's using this handle at the moment! Alli [ 08-01-2002, 11:46 PM: Message edited by: allison ]
