supposedly there is a way with the latest version of instant messenger to have a voice conversation over the net with broadband. the old versions of IM could do this but then firewalls blocked it, but the latest IM gets around it. i haven't used it, but somebody's telling me he uses it to talk to his research collegues in sweden a lot.

definately a crowded spot already for sure, and precisely maybe my point - if that many people enjoy publicly owned land the way it is maybe that's the way they should keep it. but yeah i'm sure you're right, citizens don't have any say in these issues - it all comes down to money and politics. the american people don't own their own land anymore, now the government does.

the big deal about 2 man rope teams on glacier is that if one person falls in a crevasse the other guy really has his hands full. it's really hard to put a picket in at the same time you're holding the fall in a self arrest postion. if you don't think so try it with simulation some time. one thing some people do is each person carry a second tool. this can be *a little* easier for the holder to make a quick anchor out of, and the person in the crevasse can use two tools to climb out.

i'm skeptical of the blood type diet craze. i read up on blood type distribution a while back and the inheritance is just your basic independently assorted allele. while you get more A's in western europe and more O's in eastern europe, the level admixture is too great to be of much use as a genetic marker for an individual's ancestral makeup. just my $.02

not to jump on your case and all, but to jump on your case if i may, to say there shouldn't be any slack in the rope sounds a little like a perfect world situation. my experience with simulclimbing is the follower can't always go through moves at precicely the same speed as the leader (and often may move ahead creating a little slack to give the leader enough rope for his moves). so i think a little slack could easily be in the system, although hopefully not more than 20 feet or say at most i guess. anyway, a falling body speeds up pretty quick so can't even 10 feet generate a descent yank? i have a tibloc and it pretty damn pointy looking. anybody else?
