  1. ahh yes, always the climbers dilemma, a good adventure or a good warm body to be with at the end of the day. the grass is always greener somewhere else, isn't it? more power to those of you who have found both, consider yourself lucky. and for the rest, all you can do is play the game, and hope you're getting enough of whatever you need to get you through the night. and so what if its bowling? its keeping my grandpa going and he's over 90 now.
  2. no matter how nice your outfit is it won't do any good if its sitting in the car. i've got a great canon t70 that spent a lot of time on the ground and many trips went undocumented. i got a olympus wide angle point and shoot and the photos are pretty decent quality especially with good film or slides and i find that the camera comes along much more often. i guess you really have to decide what's more important, having the highest quality pictures or having them at all.
  3. so i drag my ass out of bed before 5:30 a.m.-- which is no fun i assure you especially when there is no climbing to be had--to drive to the airport and find a place to park my car. what a scam that is--the cheapest place was $7/day at some run-down motel. i get to the airport to find way too many people in some very long lines. and they all seem to be happy about it! too many morning people in this world, i guess. so i pay the curbside guy a couple bucks to avoid some of the mayhem and then find a line streching across the airport just to go through the metal detector. i wait for almost an hour for the pleasure of getting a rubdown with the wand looking for everybit of metal on my person. i guess us guys don't have it so bad though, some chick in the line next to me had some metal in her bra so they kept scanning her boobs and asking her what she had in there--it was pretty funny but i wasn't in such a laughing mood by this point. just remember to leave the steel-support briefs at home. so i finally get to my gate and the plane has already left, the one guy behind the counter gives me the "sucks to be you" look and tells me i have to come back in 8 hours for the only other flight available. i got to drive all the way home in some fun seattle traffic to sleep for a few hours and do it all again, lucky me. just another example of why air travel should be avoided at all costs.so if any of you are flying for the holidays then be prepared, i feel for you, and if you're driving then more power to ya. and if you're climbing then you suck because i am jealous!have a fine holiday whatever you do and now i gotta run so i don't miss the plane again.Cheers. 4. hey michelle, does that mean vodka shots instead of whiskey?
  5. ahh yes, nothing like jonesing to get high to bring out the true creativity in a person. either that or an injury, but that's no fun to talk about. guess there's just something about earth bong hits out in the wilderness when nothing else will work.
  6. hey sean, what's with the new signature? you lost track after too many smokes? other than the fact that you ARE a dork, i mean. [ 12-17-2001: Message edited by: dr. jay ]
  7. anyone know much about these? i saw an olympus for $190 on amazon.com and it looks like a good deal, but i'm a bit clueless about them.
  8. back to the swiss?
  9. oh come now erik, you big stud. you expect us to believe that PG version? tell us what really happened...or at least make up some shit.
  10. you too sean. and have fun driving back. i thought going to tacoma was bad. ouch.
  11. nice idea, though, but far too complex for my non-computer brain to figure out. oh well...
  12. hey sean and other seattleites, what time is the posse heading south? i can get started whenever since i aint workin today. sorry to those of you who are, just more cause to drink tonight. woo hoo.
  13. come now sean, quit your bellyachin', its not that bad. i'll even give you a ride so you don't have to drive. besides, erik's got a good point. i mean, he has been climbing in california while the rest of us have only been working in seattle watching it rain. we shouldn't have to make him drive so far...hope you had a good trip, e, j-tree was pretty nice too. so anyway i'll give anyone a ride from seattle if they want, and i'll even try to stay sober enough to drive home too.
  14. i can't vouch for the tents but integral designs is a great company. i have some other products that i really like and the customer service rocks.
  15. just wanted to get this back at the top of the list--gotta keep our priorties staight. i don't know much about murphy's but i'll take michelle's word for it being the professional pub clubber that she is... quote: Originally posted by ehmmic: Sorry for the mix-up Dr. Jay. 16. free your heels and free your mind!
  17. dave, i would vote for cat in the hat--it is a classic 5.6 on a great piece of rock in a great setting. you will not be disappointed, but olive oil is a nice alternate as well. just try to stay out of the casinos and strip joints the night before--an early start is very helpful with the short days now. descending by the lights of the strip is pretty cool, but with the rangers on the loop road its not worth the ticket. have an awesome time. Jay
  18. i found some worms in my backyard today. will that work? or maybe slugs to give it that nortwest flair.
  19. well actually michelle my new neighborhood is fremont and i don't know where murphy's is, but hey, i'm up for anything. it was probably just the beer talking. good thing i didn't drive home--thanks for the ride V. sorry to hear you'll be out of action for awhile beck so i guess the rest of us will just have to pick up the slack. cheers!
  20. oops, i guess i was one of the culprits who left you all hanging with the check. i promise it wasn't on purpose. i'll get you all back next week. cheers, Jay
  21. hey caveman, are you showing up? if so i've got something in my trunk you might be interested in. if not then check the yard sale postings tomorrow.
  22. don't sweat it, dave. i would have been there with you but i guess i'm just not sneaky enough. any chance to avoid unneccesary run-ins with the man should be taken. unfortunately my fine had nothing to do with the parking lot but that i played along with the fake name and larry was not in a good mood.
  23. geez, dave, you left just as things were getting fun, too. and yes, it certainly was the good officer larry on the scene. after the initial round of harrassment was over, i didn't have my i.d. when he asked and so i told him it was indeed nick space who climbed orbit just like it said on the day permit. but i screwed up the math when i gave nick's birthday so i came clean but larry didn't find it too funny. first came the handcuffs and the threats of violence and jail time, then the shock and disbelief that i would actually lie to him, followed up by the $100 fine for misleading an officer. he then dished out another $50 fine for wating in the parking lot and everyone else got a stern talking-to. in a surprising act of goodwill larry then "activated" john's pass retroactively and he got off with a warning. all in all it added up to $150 in fines, a huge waste of time and energy and a lot of tired, bitter, outdoor enthusiasts. i don't know if will make any difference in my case, but i plan on taking my ticket before a judge just to air out some complaints in public and pretend i have a voice against the man. any legal advice would be most appreciated. fight the power! 24. can someone post a set of directions for those of us who missed the last one?
