  1. Sunset Park, Chattanooga, TN...not backcountry though Call Jason Keith at the Access Fund, he should have comprehensive knowledge on this topic.
  2. It's a pretty basic concept of periodization and one reason to use it whether or not you're trying to "peak" for an event. High rep work that keeps you aerobic encourages capillary development as well as connective tissues development. You'll lose some max strength and power during a high-rep low pump aerobic phase. However, the losses in this area are quickly regained through some low rep/heavy training. Freakishly quickly. The physical benefits (increased blood supply) of the "base" phase won't diminish much when you switch phases and go to strength training, certainly not at the rate that strength drops off when you're doing endurance work. This is probably due to the neurological component of power/strength vs the primarily physical component of increased blood supply. There is also the energy utilization aspect of endurance, but let's stick with basics. The net result is being both stronger and having better endurance. It's also likely that recovery from the workouts will become enhanced due to the increased circulation. I've greatly oversimplified a complex concept here. Any high rep exercises (i.e. > 15reps) is unlikely to add more than a small amount of mass. If you're addding mass with endurance work, ou're probabaly eating too much. It takes around 20 minutes for the "satiated" message to reach your brain from your gut, so you might try eating half your meal, taking a break and then seeing how hungry you are after waiting a while.
  3. What's your point donkey? Lets get down to basics: You posted this to imply that the rich are disproportionately funding charity. The net-worth/household-wealth model is probably a much better comparison than AGI if you really want a picture of the upper class's contribution to charity. Despite being in higher tax brackets, the rich avoid a tremendous amount of taxes through shelters and loopholes. The AGI figures will not reflect this since they represent taxable income. The end state is that there is a widening gap between the rich and the poor, and a disappearing middle class. The robber-barons better pony up some charity money, because all of us underlings are going to need it before long. I will say this on your "leeches" comment: The hardest working fuckers I've seen in this country are typically the lowest paid. Try your hand on a mexican roofing crew or on a slaughterhouse line sometime Pete.

  6. That's the best you can do Pete? Darren just tore your pathetic spew apart and the best you got is "Are you sure?".
  7. They still have them, but $10 now instead of $5. I got a pair, and they run kinda big as Pete said. They don't fit my Alpha shells (could probably make them fit though by ordering a size small, and taking a knife to the upper section), but they work like a charm in my snowboard boots. Kept my feet plenty warm at 0degF this weekend.
  8. Tabor! The word leaves one particular railslide possibility haunting my mind. The long stairway or the guardrail?
  9. He's too busy training to send that 5.13, he's got no time to post
  10. faster than they chopped our barbs when TLG was wishing for another 10" tonight?
  11. Garble Garble is a mystery: Is she a foreigner with only tenuous grasp of English? Is her brain addled by some powerful drug? Does she suffer a serious mental debility? Is she typing wearing a catcher's mit? Garble's rampant typos, malapropisms and seemingly aggressive use of execrable grammar can't be explained merely in terms of poor typing skills or the lack of a spell checker. Even non-English speakers generally do a better job of punctuation grammar and capitalization, and Garble is all the more puzzling because if one goes to the trouble of wading through the muddle of her messages a discernable idea will usually emerge. For example, in a forum discussion about a painting she might say, "Sorry the picchr the har is wrog. The culir. I liike the lips bot teh Paintng is sucs". When attacked for his random capitalization Garble might respond, "oPS i HITTED THE CAPDLOCK". Not surprisingly, she drives Grammarian and Nitpick absolutely nuts, but she is utterly impervious to any sort of correction and if their attacks persist she will sign off in a huff with something like, "yuor forum si stupef. bYE!"
  12. #9 line...isn't that Powell? Dude, you should try the #4 down Division it's the sickness or the 14 all the way to Tabor...skin up, rip park benches and picnic tables all the way down or drop the north side steeps and hook up the Belmont line...I forget the number. You could jib off the bike rack right into the door of Stumptown #2 on Belmont.
  13. There are nordic trails I can ski at lunch about 1 mile from my office. 6 month season and lighted too.

  17. Doctor B said they (Gadd et all) claimed the first winter ascent. It seemed to me that such a claim was being made because the House/Backes/Blanchard ascent didn't go to the summit (it actually appears that it was the publisher who goofed that one, see Dru's post above). That was kinda silly IMO, so I figured you could just as easily call BS on them because Dec 5 is not "winter". Dec is winter conditions in my book, but on the calendar it's not winter. I couldn't climb any of that shizzle anyway so cheers to all of 'em.
  18. We're a little different in AK, no locality pay for us because we get a separate COLA instead. Actually, the OPM tables I've seen show varying amounts of total raise (e.g. PDX 2.07% total raise and Seattle 2.16% total raise) I think the locality pay bit was raised in its percent of the pay. i.e. PDX has a 13.6% locality for '04, it was 12.97% in '03 (fuzzy math I know). So they raised the whole scale 1.5%, then raised the locality .5% and then computed the locality based on the updated gen sched. Or something like that. Either way, I get a 25% tax free COLA for living where a gallon of milk costs $7, and a sixer of good stuff runs $9. I hope they get the Omnibus passed, because there's shitloads of pork for AK in there (thanks Sen Stephens!) and I need that 4.1% for my new H2 I've got on order Seriously though, I'm trying to save for my first house and I need that extra loot.
  19. Every year the federal general-schedule (the pay tables) gets a slight cost of living increase, usually around 2-3%. This year it was only 1.5%. The congress gave themselves 2.2%. Now I don't think 2.2% annually is out of line, but the fact that they gave themselves more than Joe Average govt employee is BS. FWIW, inflation tends to fluctuate around 2-3%.
  20. Get back in your H2 politcally correct anti-spray wagon and go buy a can of STFU, mmmkay BlowsBoys
