  1. we dug out the last snow bank on Friday: Road 2329 is now open to Killen Creek TH, but only via the back way (FR 23 to 21 to 56 to 5603 to 2329). The standard way (FR 23 to 2329) is still blocked by snow before Takhlakh Lake. More importantly, FR 23 is now completely open from Randle to Trout Lake, as of 1AM on June 3. go for it!
  2. I posted a few photos of the north side of Adams on my site today. Friday we went in and skied the Lyman Glacier (south portion). Climbing up the North Ridge, we could definitely see that there was fresh snow on the NFNWR (and most of the upper mountain). Strangely though, there were a few rock poking through in the constriction that you normally do not see until late summer/early fall.
  3. yeah that is one helluva zoom. they went wide angle on that thing and it appeared like the news chopper was over the Winthrop!!!
  4. looks like another chopper just dropped off two rescuers at the top of the chute just above Thumb Rock. This live video feed is kinda neat. I must say, though, I feel bad for the climbers in the affected party...I sure wouldn't want all this attention.
  5. philfort's "rainier cam" has a good view of the ridge right now...I don't see the chopper yet Rainier Cam
  6. Guessing that you’re interested in this more as a climb rather than a ski... We skied it last year about this time and it was pretty much top to bottom corn. We'll be in that neck of the woods in the next few days and will post a TR here. Until then, you can check out these links as I think they would represent similar coverage to what is there now: June 6th, 2003 ski descent June 5-8th, 2003 skiing the lower flanks June 27th, 2003 ski descent As for snow conditions for climbing, I don't know. Plus we usually ski northside routes blind and climb the north ridge for its fast and easy access. I think if you're on route early, things should be nice and firm for cramponing.
  7. the web cam appears to be malfunctioning...did it move? or is it broken?
  8. despite what the others say...I may actually be heading down there this weekend.
  9. I need to move it down a bit so more of the Carbon is visible. Next clear spell I'll work on getting that Thumb Rock Shag-Cam working too Rainier Cam is looking pretty good right now...
  10. suck ass! it sure sounds like areas east of the crest got the shaft this winter. I too have been in that area much later in the season and found decent snopack!
  11. View your favorite websites the way they were meant to be... Undoubtedly, some of you have already seen this, but I thought it was hilarious! The Shizzolater
  12. Very nice report ...but what about the photos???
  13. not sure about the returns , but I know I have exchanged stuff there, even used stuff, but always with my receipt...
  14. I'll try to see if I have any others that are lighter and post it here if I find one...
  15. Attached is another picture from 6/02. Red is the Carbon to Thumb Rock approach. Orange is a variation around the toe of the ridge, also subject to big icefall from the Liberty Cap Glacier. Purple is the route from Thumb Rock to Liberty Cap. I agree, down climbing would seriously suck, especially having your back turned to all the potential rocks that could literally remove your head...even with a helmet on!
  16. Here is a view from just below St. Elmo's looking up the Wintrop: taken 6/9/02
  17. crossing the winthrop roughly below st. elmo's pass is pretty easy going. if it was me, i'd hit schurman, hang a left, and hug the prow till you are under st. elmo's, then cross. this should be pretty easy right now. there is a bit of an icefall more centrally located in the glacier, but hugging the prow should be pretty clean. I certainly don't see a need to descend all the way down the inter glacier only to climb back up to st. elmo's and drop down onto the winthrop again. If we get a clear spell before you go, you should check this
  18. hmm. that does look pretty cool! N.T.S.P.S.
  19. Nice shots, Ben. I especially like that 2nd one with the ice-cliff.
  20. I second the notion: Sky needs a job! We can't hold that against him though to a job well done, Ben and Sky.
  21. We'll certainly miss being towed behind her throaty breath. Her replacement will have very big shoes to fill. I think you should keep the 'bilers for Nader sticker, personally!
  22. Lowell, Sounds like a great trip! I would love to see those slides once you get them back! Nice job to you and Carl
  23. I have to agree...I own the Nike and it rocks!!!! It is WAY more accurate than my old Avocet. Also, it seems to be built extra tough, which is not a bad thing! According to the manual, it is also possible to change the battery yourself unlike the Avocet.
