  1. Thanx but ,I wish it were simple. It is a long tedious apprenticeship on "How to not screw yourself up as you learn". Of all the devises though, I prefer the soloist. All devises are pains in the rear. Best just to free-solo.
  2. Three cheers to John, Marcus , Gary and everyone that put into this event .It is the kind of thing that should happen more often and even here in Seattle!
  3. Where do we get the complete lack of separation between supporting the troops and -or- not supporting the war? They are not mutually exclusive!!!!
  4. Fun Times > It was very entertaining watching everyone struggle a very difficult prelim. It will be interesting to hear about the reachy moves on the after thread. It didnt seem anyone under 6' tall had a chance
  5. Such a quick sending too!
  6. too late, he is already healing
  7. Old Mike and his euro-pins. He used to loan me his rack when I was a tot and I would go solo pounding on the bluffs. Good times.
  8. Is there anyway to make the "views " on the forums hot? It used to switch the forum to the most viewed threads in the forum. Also showed the most replies on the "reply" column etc..Thank you for all the great things you have done for the site btw, Wayne
  9. YES, Keep pushing it Rob. push your technique and pro placement too. Learn to stem well and take advantage of rests.
  10. Nice, where is the rock located?
  11. Which campground, as long as we are fielding redundant questions
  12. Just got a phone call from the Man , he is 1/3rd of the way across the Pacific and finally got away from the detrimental winds. He told me he is doing great but it will be hard to land now where he wants to.Check out the site ,and sign up for his regular dispatches . They are entertaining! Also dont miss the slide show benefit for him at the Skagit Valley Alpine Club on October 3rd. It should be in the events forum soon.
  13. Stellar work as usual, When the Extreme Ski Journal out?
  14. I recall going up from the saddle on the usual choss. I dont remember it being all that bad
  15. Just follow the railroad spikes E, They stick out a foot , There was one sitting in the cave so I drove it in the start.
  16. No oak at all, but a new forest is there that wasnt there on the old summit photo I have seen Don, Proud effort on your part for sure, You might ask Dave Jensen. His was the first party in the new register, Jeff Thomas of the Mazama archive knew nothing of a record brought to the clubhouse . One of those mysteries, I guess. I dont believe it has seen another ascent, but maybe there is someone on this board ready to sack up?. Its not that bad just bring lots of bugaboos. Ed Cooper of all people emailed me a couple of years ago asking me for beta.
  17. When I got to the top of the 96' band the webbing was sitting on the ledge with the rap ring through it still. Completely rotted off, Also an entire layer of rock had worn off, because I saw no pin scars the entire way.I place only pins the whole way except for a tcu near the top. Also afriend of mine knew the guys that died. They were back cleaning pins on lead and one popped and they both went. Also Dan, the Davis ramp is on the Black Spider, Hood
  18. Pacific Inn tonight.
  19. A contestant and judge? We have a winner!
  20. Ok there must have been another summit register that was pulled off after his ascent. There is a big blank between 194 and 1958, When did he do it? Here is what I pieced together from the Dodge guide 1940 Orig. ascent party of 5 1958 NE Face party of 2 1965 Var. of orig rt party of 3 Then the register had the following: Nov 12 62 Party of (claiming the 2nd ascent of NE face) Bob Martin, Eugene Dod, Dave Jensen, and Kim Smitz Sept 7 1963 (3rd Ascent NE Face) Dean Caldwell, Bryan Babcock Nov 30 63 S rt Gerald Bjorkman ,Ted Davis, Kim Smitz Jan 4 64 (must have been a mild winter?)Alan abixas Jim Berge, Kim Hink. Mar 4 64 Ted Davis Dave Chattin,, 8-9-64 Ted Davis, Allen Smith,Bill Cummins The Day after the N face of Crown Point 8-29-65 Bill Cummins, Ted Davis Dick Scheideman 5-6-67 Mazama Adv School: Bill Cummins,Larry Sandstrom, Art Revel,Thomas Plaaman, Jim Nieland, Scott Arighi, Robin Baker 9-28-68 Glen and Don Kirkpatrick 9-16-72 Dean Fry, Paul Fry 6-17-77 Dave Zimmerman, Will Tuttle, Ted Mayfield 6-19-94 WW solo There was some interesting banter in there especially when Ted Davis was involved. He must have been quite the character. He is known to have done the 1st ascent of the Black Spider, I suspect it was up the rt I call the Davis Ramp though I cant be sure. It is the only way up it I would solo comfortably. He is rumored to have left for Canada when his draft card came up. Let me know if I can be of further help, Wayne
  21. I have the info, I copied the register by hand and turned it over to the mazama historical. I can dig it out,
  22. Go Dan! It can be done solo too.
  23. Also is it possible that it is mislabeled on the Quad map. It appears the pass south of it is lower.?
  24. I am hopin some kind soul has pics of Picket pass to maybe Frenzlespitz?
  25. No Worries Mates! I heard there was a section on I-rock , true? Any other differences?
