No shit, there I was... last night i was at a social picnic down in Tacoma ... Me and my friend Fran M. are listening to an older climber (retired) ... he's telling us about how he was testing the effect of blood acidity and altitude back in the day, and that taking baking soda or antacids seemed to have positive effects on regulating carbonic acids in the blood, along with other muscular effects... sounded very intriging, Fran and I are like, "well, we'll try anything to help at attitude" Well, after he leaves, my friend Fran M says " do you know who that was? Larry P. the founder of MSR!" the Man behind the stoves!! Too cool... anyone else run into any local legends lately?

AlpineK, thank you for giving me some space, man, my shit stinks as well. Jblakely, he's the OTHER guy- my quote, " I'm a LUGER, baby, so why don't you thrill me" If anyone else out here has Lake Placid Olympic Training Center Residency Cred, I'd love to hear from you.

I don't have to prove myself to anyone, I'm getting flipped dis about me on this site, that's what I don't like, him slandering me and talking me down- he's a much better climber than me, I don't know where these insecurities arise from in him, I'm just going to let it roll in the overflowing bucket like my Taoist Education taught me.

kind of expensive pitchers if I remember, maybe some place in the Udist has some better bargains?
-
some pinhead is generally insulting my cred and getting under my skin, I shouldn't let it bother me, I know, but when your integrity and passion are challenged by another you want to defend yourself
-
I kind of had a feeling this was what was really going on, Dwayner- how did you school the actor that played you in so much climbing knowledge so quickly?
-
Yeah but havin Teddy Ruxpin taking rockfall hits and spouting off in the middle of your choss gully crux scrabble gets to be distracting, I usually wanted to shove my picket right down his loudass backtalking fuzzy face, good idea about climbing without the pants though, it definetly helps with "evacuation issues" when you're squatting your big hairy over the side of a big yawner, just make sure to prussik the rope and not your picket or you'll be givin' big lou something to be jealous about!!!
-
you got it ehmmic, nice to meet you last night- What do you want to do/bring/present? I'm thinking of calling an actual meet of the masterminds of this here megafest sometime in early mid sept to dial it all in and pack it up tight. Stay tuned for details, you can send me an email if you want to go climb something some weekend.

beaniebabies work almost as tickle me elmos as well placed snow pro, just remember to TENSION BACKUP em to each other like a chain gang of preverted stuffed garanimals.

and a buch of egotistical a--holes too, I can be one, that's for sure.

I would additionally reccomend checking that other schools will recert you if you trained with another group- I made a mistake of sending in a deposit to a group that has no cooperative recert with the other groups before finding out about this and lost 100 bucks, also, if you intend to use this as a work resource most organizations recogognize only a couple of WFR courses as good enough to qualify- say as a NOLS instructor or as a camp counselor.

thanks Jon, I' just feel personally insulted and wanted to vent

Yep, grand time had by all, It is truly cool to meet more of the folks off this site, thanks erik for the Bouldering Beta for near Bridge Creek, it will help is setting up the tick list for the Fall Megafest. Pope, great to get to meet you in the flesh and it's is always an honor to be in the midst of the Dwayner!!! Who's hosting the next one? I'm trying not to be the guy pushing an alcoholic agenda on all us Cascade Climbers, but I think it's a common sentiment- Where were the other 1000+ posters ? Is anybody out there?? I know a lot of you are more distant and can't make the local Pubfests so you are all excused, the rest of you, whassup??

Kurt, thanks for helping out on Nordic Patrol- I don't yell at anyone except people that may not be listening to me and giving me atitude sometimes it's tough up there, I've been working on my people skills I have a (volunteer) job to do down there and I try to do it well I have a hat and a vest with a patch on it and that's it you have your right to your opinion, I have the right to mine but I don't like you flipping me dis over what I do, buddy, or disparaging me on other threads what's the problem, do you need to put me down to feel better about yourself? I'm was enjoying the original purpose of this thread, Big Lou sightings ,and feel disgusted with myself to allow your opinion of me to bring it down with all our bickering, so to everyone else, I apologize [This message has been edited by Beck (edited 08-15-2001).]

No offense taken Cavey, AlpineK 's fippin' me some shit and I shouldn't let his dimwit spray of me affect my disposition. I'm secure in what I do, maybe he has some insecurity issues. We were talking about Big Lou sightings and he gets off on dissin' me for being in the middle of a rescue evacuation with the man while serving as a ski patroller. They NPS allows me the privledge of free weekend housing at Longmire for helping out at Mount Rainier and I'm very grateful to have the opportunity to help them out down there, rergardless of how AlpineK feels about it-he is a way more accomplished climber than me , maybe he wants to put me in a headlock and cry "uncle|" to make him feel better about himself.
-
I don't know what your problem is Alpinek, are you just real cynical? you've been up on Ski Patrol , you've helped do a litter evacuation and helped out one of your brethren, I'd think you'd appreciate what we do down there instead of dissing it. I'm talking about an RMI guide being an idiot for five minutes while his coworker was crushed under a cornice and he wouldn't admit there was any need of assistance when in reality she's paralyzed from the waist down now. I'm walking around talking to Comm going " it seems there's some kind of problem but I can't get any confirmation on that" and it wasn't until Pete Whittaker came up over the edge and started to actually communicate they did need a helicopter evacuation-they didn't have any live radios to start evacuation procedures! As for me not having authority as a law enforcement up there, you're right, at the same time I'm up there to inform and assist and they were definetly in need of a great deal of assistance. and as for flipping attitude you're right sometimes everyone does, just like you're flippin me BS on this thread, AlpineK.
-
EddieE you are the Man!! for lining that up, hikerwa the generator!! excellent and no, that's all cool, micah, hope to see you there- to AlpineK just because I don't climb like you doesn't mean I'm not a climber- you know my cred, right dude?

I'm going skiing outside of Leavenworth on Saturday, probably bive high and come back down to scope the bouldering at bridge creek sunday, free pool at the Post Office Tavern in Lworth after six on Sundays if anyone wants to go- 1000 ft yo yos 5mi carry in
-
hey blister if you could get spearhead that would be great, have em show up at 3 on Saturday- I'm looking for people to help with agendas for the weekend, if anyone wants to constructively help out that would be great, some planning will be happening at the next pub club- By the way, aside from a few buddies I have that post on this site, the only ones of you I actually know are from the Pub Clubs, all the rest of you are internet doppelgangers as far as I'm concerned- come on out from behind the keyboard and drink with your climbin' bros at an upcoming pubclub!!
-
Nah, I was skiing on backcountry ski patrol above the accident site and scoped some kind of incident at Pan Point with my monocular, then descended to see what was up- It seems NONE of the RMI radios had live batteries (scary!)and they were trying to get in touch with Comm Center on their cell phones to initiate the rescue. I called it in, then lent Pete W. my radio for the remainder of the incident. To the RMI staff that may read this, if someone with a park service badge comes up to you, you may want to cooperate more expediently, particularily in a rescue situation- it took me five minutes to draw some kind of an intelligent response from you- what were you doing, trying to pretend your coworker WASN'T crushed under a cornice block??? *idiot*

summer shell, Marmot precip, 99 bucks- Full winter armor, try LL Bean, excellent quality and features, 100- 150 bucks cheaper than Marmot/ Arxteryx or TNF Although in winter, Scholler or Polarshield is great as a most of the time outer layer and way way way more comfortable than wearing the shell anyway!!!

I've seen Big Lou magically appear in the midst of a rescue evacuation of RMI guide Cate?Casson off of Pan Point a couple years ago during tryout weekend, helped carry the litter all the way back to Paradise- any of you RMI types out here know how she's doing? A cpuple stories about Lou and Jim come to mind- they mention standing in for each other over the years, both here and abroad, and also the hilarious account of their competitive "hold your breath" training for some himalayan climb in the sixties. If anyone's ever heard it, it's a FUCKIN riot!
