  1. watch for the combination of a large push of marine moisture coupled with nightime freezing levels of 5500 feet and you stand SOME chance of scoring good turns on the heather of Harts Pass area or off the north side just east of where the gate is. I'm hoping it's gonna happen for me by halloween, anyone want to go there this weekend if the weather rolls?
  2. New Years' Eve- kegger in the trees just off of Castle/Pinnacle basin in the Tatoosh!- or New Years Eve underneath ThreeWay Peak up in Crystal Basin? I'm just thinking of places I'll be happy hauling a keg into, skyline ridge would be doable but not enjoyable with a sled brake system rigged. [ 10-22-2002, 02:44 PM: Message edited by: Beck ]
  3. and seconding Mattp's comments about the nonnecccesity for a bivy and the lightweight tarp or just the pack/raincoat option works pretty well. Crankbolter is absolutely definitive in the superior performance of the encapsulated or microfiber vs. laminates, and the "wearable" bags are a bit drafty and less efficent compared to classic mummy. Funny to see people with dryloft bags sneaking into their bivy bags for a bluebird starry night out!
  4. ...but, seriously, back on topic, we all know the debatable merits of down/synthetic, but you CAN take down out on multi week winter trips and be just fine if you do it right. As to bag construction, a bag with a foot opening and armholes with some type of weather resistant shell is the only way to go if you're going to be laying out 300 bills or so for a down bag anyway- check out FF winter wren. Nunatak will kick one out for you in either down or synth, umm, you can find a Euro company (can't recall the name, Exped?) that makes a sweet looking one, pretty inexpensive, too. I'm telling you, once you start wearing your sleeping bag while you sort gear and make breakfast, you're in seventh heaven. It's really the only way to go.
  5. probably some seventh day adventist collective, then- those folk are WACKY!

Ya people are breaking fixed hammer heads all the time, I'd recomend staying away from this technology

    Rope Up!!!

No, Wa ain't got huts worth any mention- I'll haul a keg anywhere on skis you guys want it to go and it won't have to be a pony, either- I think we could help entertain any local Canook hosts who might be in atendance. As for smaller scale, pre- spring weekend bashes, a bivy upon Heather Ridge at Stevens Pass is very doable for an overnight PARTY destination.

solid! Nice design- fixed head, replacable picks, eliminates one extra thing to fail on you.
  9. Schultzy's, convenient access off I-5, and, indeed, like the Con. VS says, Big Time string cheese incident night right across the street that night too and they'll sell you beer to go in containers- makes a moon lit assault on the Rock in order!
  10. and, generally in the publishing arena, big book houses usually get their print allotment of books before small stores or the people who put it out do, has to do with them wanting to leverage independant booksellers out of business. Also, I think John H. was telling me about taking the editorship at a later date than usual or having to scramble on the project or something otherwise odd like that last summer .
  11. They're good people, in business because of their love of the wurst- they make theirs in house, a culinary sausage fest in the making- double bling bling helzapoppin

    I'm okay.

Stefan, glad to hear you are all (relatively) okay, got to hate the crater- better try to keep off that daytime tv, the soaps will get ya!
  14. hmm.. open footbag, lets you get up, put on boots, go fire up stove to get h20 boiling, while still in your sleeping bag...hmm...
  15. If you're going to buy a new bag, I strongly reccommend you get one with a drawstring footbag. You will love yourself for it for the next two-three decades you own the damn thing. Really. get one.

    Rope Up!!!

Wow. Still grinnin'. This years' Ropeup ROCKED! Great to see everybody, meet everybody, and see everybody i didn't meet, what a happening we had going on. Three cheers for Terminal Gravity, J Kruger and whoever else helped the beer flow, TG, YOU THE MAN!
  17. had coffecake with Dr Jay and Eric this morning at Bridge Creek- the bathrooms are open, no running water.
  18. you can drink in campgrounds, tha's for sure! Big roaring parties with a butrocking metal band plugged into a generator hidden in the bushes probably aren't, so some discretion will probably be in order- we need to get the keg its' own tent- does anyone want to bring an extra Megamid for the keg to "chill" out in?
  19. TG the only way to go with collapsible poles are the Black Diamond flicklocks, it's the only bomber adjustable poles out there- but thery're not light, like 7oz each, why do you need the extrlite? seems there'd by a tradeoff with durability, if you want really light look into XC racing poles but they're mostly made of carbon fiber and probably wouldn't take any extended rock bashing.
  20. best not let the snafflehounds get wind of this one!
  21. okay, I'll bring a tapper for the keg then,in case one doesn't make it. See ya'll tommorrow.
  22. free pool at the Old Post Office Sundays after 6 pm, just put on a flannel and stick a big knife on your belt, you'll fit right in (oh, yeah, and don't ask "What kind of microbrews you got?" in any smalltown tavern, just order a Pabst or a Kokanee and you'll be fine)
  23. skinny dipping in Tranquil Lake optional part of tour. Will bring highballs to lower inhibitions after a burly choss walk to boulder.
  24. Mattp is covering some important topics as this year we aren't at a group site. Bridge Creek site officially is small, but could definitely handle the size of crowd we had last year. If most/all spots get reserved by climbers, then in collusion we can be havin' a party with no complaints, except by the campground hosts who will be stopping by from eight mile- who I think we can handle. Unofficial camping down road of group site, across road to right at gate,to old campground or, Agood spot if the party looks to be getting big is right across the bridge to the left side of road there's a big pull down spot (If you've been up there you know what I'm talking about) that looks good for partying and camping at, although would probably get one visit from the man, i've seen overnighters there. I think the taking over the bridge creek site makes the most sense."Wow, what a coincidence, we all found out we were climbing today " kind of explanations if we get cuestions. we Put overflow cars and/or main party in pull down spot across the bridge. if it looks like things are going to get out of hand A bribe for the campground host is probably in order. Smoked salmon and a fifty. I'll take care of that part.
  25. karma's already predestinated who's going to recover those cams, you dolts. Darma, thats affectable.
