  1. there was no snow in that gully as of two weeks ago, just choss, if you're talkin' about the obvious gully up from Colchuck Col on W side of Dragontail
  2. hey, I'm down with Santa, yipyaws. Have you even tried a Crystal?
  3. REINHEINSGEBOT 1648
  4. Aaas Pils' has Santa hauling a sledge and he t'aint go no reindeer, not a bad brewski either!
  5. ...doing some fact checkin', Crystal from Chech Rpg. or, it's Aas Pils from Norway (mit umlaut und Santa Clausmeister) but maybe I'm biased to it coz' it's label- looks like Santa's going to a party!
  6. not to mention you can drive 30k over the limit in Can and get away with it! All those wackos are going 140 easy.

    Moss

...a better smoke would be kinnicinck, a rather low shrub with oval leaves and a fuzzy reddish underside, mix it with blueberry leaves for a mellower smoke. Moss is good for wiping your ass, or eating when you're REALLY hungry on a climb. Don't forget to try the lichen.
  8. ..What's that one from Norway that's got Santa Claus on the label, can't remember the name, can't find the label, Jytte pils?? Or the one from Check Republic NOT Pilsner Urquell? THAT'S a good beer!
  9. At last nights' pub club, some good options were raised about a ski party- A great suggestion was a spring highway 20 party down on the east side, sounds like the camping/parking/skiing are going to be right there, also the weather/daylight would be in our greater favor. I'm still down with coming togther for some BC ski parties this winter, New Years' Eve or therabouts at Threeway Peak by Crystal, or SmithBrook road- the Baker option sounds problematic, with official "no camping" type of BS- methinks we would want a big raging fire weekend type of partying thing, with skis on! But I'll still haul the keg anywhere you want it.
  10. What a friggin' SAUSAGE FEST last night, but since that's what Schultzy's had to offer, it certainely didn't dissappoint. I'd try to list off who was in attendance but, we all know who was there, and if you don't, well, YOU MISSED OUT, lurkers... I haven't "closed a place down" since I my college days (or maybe it was this summer!) but going to a place that closes at 11 added a certain jibe to the evening- how did the rest of the evening go? I'm pretty sure I DIDN'T crash my bike on the way home, but reccollections remain hazy due to the consumption of dunkel and wurst-great fun, good to see ya'als!
  11. Ya, the focus on injuries sustained out in the sticks requires a different approach to care than what typical first aid covers, wihich is geared to the "golden hour" theorum of patient care- which is mainly about stabilizing the patient. Issues specific to patient care when help is far away is an important distinction from "first" aid in the woods like, keeping focused thru extended care ordeals, records of vitals, maintain or evacuate, whe to discontinue CPR, how to deal with this shit in the woods, and other issues. I don't have any specific book reccommendations, the wildmedinstutite dude up at northcascades base camp in mazama hasd got some texts available, I think., Wildmedinstitute.org? or something like that. Paul . . . ?
  12. Ski PARTY New Years' Eve below Threeway Peak up Crystal Basin way, should be able to have dogs, big roaring fire, a keg of beer. Anybody game?
  13. The road crews last year worked very hard at NOT getting the road open on time or at all, even if they had it cleared, sometimes you'd hear the AM radio traffic to the extent they just weren't gonna open. Might get worse later, or lessening chances of accidents, reasons like that.
  14. watch for the combination of a large push of marine moisture coupled with nightime freezing levels of 5500 feet and you stand SOME chance of scoring good turns on the heather of Harts Pass area or off the north side just east of where the gate is. I'm hoping it's gonna happen for me by halloween, anyone want to go there this weekend if the weather rolls?
  15. New Years' Eve- kegger in the trees just off of Castle/Pinnacle basin in the Tatoosh!- or New Years Eve underneath ThreeWay Peak up in Crystal Basin? I'm just thinking of places I'll be happy hauling a keg into, skyline ridge would be doable but not enjoyable with a sled brake system rigged. [ 10-22-2002, 02:44 PM: Message edited by: Beck ]
  16. and seconding Mattp's comments about the nonnecccesity for a bivy and the lightweight tarp or just the pack/raincoat option works pretty well. Crankbolter is absolutely definitive in the superior performance of the encapsulated or microfiber vs. laminates, and the "wearable" bags are a bit drafty and less efficent compared to classic mummy. Funny to see people with dryloft bags sneaking into their bivy bags for a bluebird starry night out!
  17. ...but, seriously, back on topic, we all know the debatable merits of down/synthetic, but you CAN take down out on multi week winter trips and be just fine if you do it right. As to bag construction, a bag with a foot opening and armholes with some type of weather resistant shell is the only way to go if you're going to be laying out 300 bills or so for a down bag anyway- check out FF winter wren. Nunatak will kick one out for you in either down or synth, umm, you can find a Euro company (can't recall the name, Exped?) that makes a sweet looking one, pretty inexpensive, too. I'm telling you, once you start wearing your sleeping bag while you sort gear and make breakfast, you're in seventh heaven. It's really the only way to go.
  18. probably some seventh day adventist collective, then- those folk are WACKY!

    Rope Up!!!

No, Wa ain't got huts worth any mention- I'll haul a keg anywhere on skis you guys want it to go and it won't have to be a pony, either- I think we could help entertain any local Canook hosts who might be in atendance. As for smaller scale, pre- spring weekend bashes, a bivy upon Heather Ridge at Stevens Pass is very doable for an overnight PARTY destination.

solid! Nice design- fixed head, replacable picks, eliminates one extra thing to fail on you.
  22. Schultzy's, convenient access off I-5, and, indeed, like the Con. VS says, Big Time string cheese incident night right across the street that night too and they'll sell you beer to go in containers- makes a moon lit assault on the Rock in order!
  23. and, generally in the publishing arena, big book houses usually get their print allotment of books before small stores or the people who put it out do, has to do with them wanting to leverage independant booksellers out of business. Also, I think John H. was telling me about taking the editorship at a later date than usual or having to scramble on the project or something otherwise odd like that last summer .
  24. They're good people, in business because of their love of the wurst- they make theirs in house, a culinary sausage fest in the making- double bling bling helzapoppin
