I learned to ice climb oops I have not learned yet. I will post my beta. I dont think I need a washington ice book though Just post that stuff on a free website.

I climbed the North Side of the Castle with friend in January. He said it sometimes forms a short ice climb but there was nothing last winter. Pinnacle had nothing as well. The North Ridge of Pinnacle looks like a crazy winter adventure. good luck. [ 12-03-2001: Message edited by: Cpt.Caveman ]

Oops I cannot edit for some reason. I meant to mention there was runout 5.10. At least the book topo appears that way.

I have interest in climbing this route. I recently looked at the Desert Southwest guidebook (orwhatever it is called). It says second pitch is 5.10 bulge face climbing. Is this true? I mean the overall description says 5.9 C2 or something. I am not a good 5.10 face climber. I could french free it if it were a crack Anyone have info or done the route? Is the book BS? Anyone have any route recommendations for Zion?

Just use your ice tools on designated trees only I mean I do understand where he is coming from but he is a little ridiculous to be sending that sort of mail to someone. I would have sent a harsh "I will kill you" mail back and forgot about it. I think last year I hiked that trail over 40 times and I dont recall ever taking shortcuts but never did I say anything to someone that did.
