I am happy when I see the ADA used to blunt obnoxious interpretations of The Wilderness Act of 1964. I dont know about that act. But maybe [ 11-25-2002, 08:00 PM: Message edited by: Cpt.Caveman ]

All anchors systems will have flaws. The idea is to eliminate as many of those flaws as possible and\or necessary in order to be safe. Those big rings on the Great Northern Slab at Index are good anchors [ 11-25-2002, 05:08 PM: Message edited by: Cpt.Caveman ]

Isn't it duty time for them since they are GI's? GI=Government Issue As well, it's the government's equipment with taxpayer fuel keeping that whirly bird in the sky. You are right they will get paid. But let's not imply that it is the military's duty to rescue people. You'd be surprised how many (waiting for a promotion) commanders willfully volunteer their units for things that nobody in the unit wants to take part in. I'm not saying that they don't take pride in rescuing but there are several points of view too. I'm sure the guys with families that are on call during the holidays are not happy if they get called away from a thanksgiving dinner or other family event to rescue someone. It is taxpayer cashola and I'm interested to hear the reasons behind the fee increase. I'm still not happy that the summit registers are not wheelchair accessible [ 11-25-2002, 04:13 PM: Message edited by: Cpt.Caveman ]

I've seen something of similar design at Marmot. They sure look funny. I'll flail on my skis instead.

Do you mean "The Cirque"? I know there is one line that is bolted already that runs at 11d or something I doubt the line I was looking at would be harder than 10a. But sounds like the area......

The coolest line would be if DFA or Peter Puget and co. rap bolted the big buttress before orange wall on the prow. I bet it would reveal 2 pitch climb of good quality on the arete.

quote: Originally posted by chucK: Dudes! There is certainly the possibility of terrorism in this incident. And even if it wasn't, I think just to be safe we should invade Iraq, drill the ANWR, bail out Enron, and repeal the first ammendment. Quit whining. You sound like a bitch. You probably voted for Bush anyway

quote: Originally posted by Fairweather: The local news station made it sound like it is already a "done deal". The fee is proposed to go from the current $15, up to $30!!! This money all goes to the "mountaineering program". None of it goes to cover rescues. Rescues are still covered by the taxpayer. Combined with the $10 park entrance fee, it will now cost $40 to climb a mountain we supposedly own already. Welcome to the land of the fee. That's why I don't climb on Rainier much any more.

So what. Ton of other climbs to be had anyway. They've been working construction all summer there. It's not like some super secret way to mess with climbers that they thought up at the last minute -

Yep. Welcome to the new world order. And the problem is that we all have to prepare for ever more violence, as the most powerful country leads the way. Real people really dying because of really really bad foreign policy. I like the new world order. US is king and we kick ass. Let's go to war now.
