That mountain is burly...my father had a 500 footer to a self arrest down a aspect of that mountain many years ago...

A ticket of some financial sum...but I hear that fees are for recreating in the wilderness. Might you be headed out for a Vision Quest...then a fee might not be required...um...I hate getting taxed to climb a mountain that will erupt and destroy everything anyway.

It was atleast 500lbs...but I wasn't able to decifer a hump or a flat back...can't say either way if it were a black bear or grizzly...we saw it roughly 30 feet up from the trail...but passed it through the brush on the down side of the trail. We intially saw it from 60 feet or so and corrected our course as to not draw attention...

I was up there for a little quick hike (on the 28) attempt and ran into a bear on my way out with in the last mile of trail. Did you guys run into the bear also? Since I was going for Summer conditions from Portland and didn't bring my boots the bear was my highlight of a foreshortened trek...

Wow, who knew...I never thought of putting that darn pad in the pack...thanks for the lesson Bill. See you in a couple weeks.

According to Nicholas A. Dodge: A Climbing Guide to Oregon this area is just 9V... described as "many steep snow chutes and ice blocks that provide interesting technical climbing." Can't find specific names for that area...

If you go the Mazama route (west crater rim) be prepared for some nice exposure on that summit ridge...If I remember correctly the ridge that links the western half of the mountain with the true summit is about as wide as your two feet...that's the only spot I thought a rope would have been a nice comfort when I did Leuthold awhile back... You can ski off the top. Just choose a line.

Atleast bring Ice Tools to traverse over from the Hogsback and climb the chute...could be water ice steps. My days off are Thursday and Friday or I'd say see you up there... Joe Poulton Poulton Imaging

With great success 18 crews, 70 photographers converged on Yosemite valley this last weekend. At 1pm on Saturday May 31, 2008 the 18 crews began simultaneously shooting from predetermined locations throughout the valley. This could be the largest Gigapixel image ever created to benefit Greg Stock and the NPS in their geological understanding of the Valley's rockfall hazards. Just google "xRez Yosemite Extreme Pano Project" for more info on this historical event...

This is strange...I would never rest my life with another's decision as to if I could solo or not....Sure I have soloed routes here and there from rock faces to alpine mountains. However, I never asked other people in a forum such as this. I knew my limits and abilities from climbing for awhile. Then when I felt the urge to solo I did. Though, I'd never solo on a regular basis, since it's more fun to share the outdoor experience with others.

Let's do that anyway...a great present to myself since my B-Day is May 10th....
