  4. anybody been ice climbing up there lately?
  5. the quad has top teeth "for stability while underclinging". also, the front tooth on the quad is a little more rounded than angled. and the quad is "t" rated (whereas the cascade is "b" rated). not sure if that has something to do with material. and not sure what else ...
  6. i sent a link to the tr to skip.

  11. quote: Originally posted by Dru: The only difference between regular bouldering and ice bouldering is that the latter is much harder great. i can barely pull v1's at the gym without shitting my pants!
  12. quote: Originally posted by Dru: I have climbed 1200m of ice (and snow) in the last 2 weeks that's sick. you need help.
  13. quote: Originally posted by fishstick: The Coleman glacier is like a frozen Fontainebleau. Mon dieu!!! Grab the merlot, french bread, pate and cornichons ... and count me in!
  14. let's sell our story to the paper to cover your deductible.
  15. quote: Originally posted by fishstick: Don't get me wrong, it is worth going. If less experienced, or travelling with less experienced, get onto the glacier via the lower trail (via usual AAI campsite). The normal upper trail offers better bouldering, but the route through the icefall has exposed sections. thanks! another q: less experienced ice climbing or with glacier travel? also, i've never "bouldered" on ice - is that just like sport climbing, to mean climbing without ropes?
  16. quote: Originally posted by forrest_m: TLG – ok, I did some homework, and you are right that the quad & 4x4 are not the same, however I can personally attest to the fact that the 4x4 does indeed have teeth up at the shaft end of the pick. at the shaft end yes, but not on the top of the pick ... unless it's a feature on an older version of that model they don't make anymore. the 4x4:

  18. quote: Originally posted by forrest_m: the teeth at the top of the quad pick (also known as the 4x4, right?) the 4x4 is not the same as the quad. the 4x4 is for the quasar/axar/pulsar; the quad is for the quark/quark ergo. the 4x4 does not have teeth at the top of the pick and has an angled first tooth like the cascade ...
  19. quote: Originally posted by sketchfest: I thought is was weekend of Nov. 9-10, is that right? there are people from seattle going as well, climbing the 9th through 11th. come on down/up/or whatever direction you have to go to get there.

  21. quote: Originally posted by Mike Gauthier: hey col... i was going to ask you, why didn't the police block the road? this is troubling and it sucks. no doubt. at the time the authorities seemed more concerned with determining 1) that it actually was a gunshot (and not a rock or some shit) and 2) that it happened on the highway (and not a side trail or other road where someone else would have jurisdiction).
  22. observation rock rocked my world this weekend - thanks to "my" alpine buddy of the week: col von spanker. two words for now: calf raises.
  23. downtown sucks.
  24. quote: Originally posted by SEF: Soloed Observation Rock Saturday. Cloudless, cool and frosty. Saw a party of 2 climbing up the glacier around E of the N Face as I was stumbling down the talus. dude; you must have been fast - you were off the ice before we even got on. saw the other two dudes, though. i think they were on pitch two or three when we started up. my first ice climb ended with a bang!
