  2. uh, well ... somehow i doubt it's skiable right now. jim nelson recommended the silver star creek approach over the burgundy col. i've never been to washington pass, so i'm mostly wondering if it's going to be straightforward enough for me to figure out. (i hate bushwhacking!)

  10. this will be my third thanksgiving up there. the first was great and the second was so-so. but even when whistler sucks it rocks. you can always find something decent to ski somewhere on those two mountains. eh?
  11. quote: Originally posted by Dave Schuldt: What about the Dutchess on 55th? I don't like frat boys. huh??? for the most part, you will find way more frat boys at the duchess than at the ram. of course, i guess we're only talking about tuesdays, so maybe that's specifically invalid or moot.
  12. quote: Originally posted by iain: that delay in response has dropped a bit recently. but it still is there. for a minute i thought you were talking about my response time. they also involve different search methods. if someone doesn't fill you in beforehand, i can try to explain more later.
  13. quote: Originally posted by COL. Von Spanker: I would love to hear someone define the TECHNICAL differences between analogue and digital modes as it applies to a tranciever. And no marketing BS either. who's marketing bs? All beacons use analog technology to send and receive the electromagnetic signal, but they differ in how they interpret that signal. Digital beacons use digital processing to interpret, and display information with a digital readout, signal strength bars, and/or directional arrows. However there is a slight delay due to signal processing and the sampling rate. Analog beacons use audio beeps and signal strength lights to interpret the signal. Thus, there is no delay, and the signal is displayed in “real time.” (source of quote) of course, there's more ...

  19. good luck with that one, dru.
  20. yeah; that's me. except i'm not totally blind. (the incident with the leashless axes only took out one of my eyes last weekend.) if they were a couple of total newbies i was just gonna recommend the big four ice caves is all. now that i have an answer, i'd say go for it on the coleman. fun stuff out there - hard and easy. go, go, go!
  21. how new? and are you going with someone who's not so new? and what are your goals? and how do you feel about traveling unroped on glaciers and standing around a bunch of seracs that could fall down in a heartbeat?
