thanks. i have one. you make it sound so easy, and for many people it is, but for some people it isn't. like some people can't get into canada even if they have an official birth certificate or passport. different reasons for denial or making things difficult, but anyway.

minx, i understand what you're saying but at the same time it really troubles me. i think it is VERY IMPORTANT to be able to get yourself out of almost any situation (and/or to make sure you don't get yourself into a situation you won't be able to get yourself out of). i know sometimes it's impossible to foresee everything and rescues are inevitable, but being able to work yourself out of a wrong turn will give you way more comfort than having to rely on someone else to do it.

exactly. better to have what you're supposed to have. it's been "the rule" for some time now that you need a passport or birth certificate to get through the border. consider yourselves lucky to have gotten through in the past without them. an unofficial photocopy doesn't mean shit. that'd be like trying to use an unofficial photocopy of a hundred dollar bill as a bribe.

they must have given a reason why. was it the unofficial copies of birth certificates? that would be totally legit.

well, my karakorams are full shank, and i've worn them with m10's no problem. i personally really like leather boots for general volcano slogs as well as more technical climbing.
