i agree with the above. don't buy a hammock unless you plan to use it for emergencies OR are VERY concerned about weight.... read: you won't be hauling. if you are hauling, then get a ledge. and, if you are going to get a ledge - save up and buy a proper ledge. lastly, if you do get a ledge, get a double. even if you plan to solo. you can always use the extra room, but can never fit two on a single. my vote is for the cliff cabana. built well, comfy, a bit finicky to setup but worth it. metolious is in the same league. the BD skylounge should only be considered if you can get it cheap - heavy, small(er), and no bed tensioners.

i agree that we should avoid the rogue but it may be the most reasonable option. other options are: Yurs - dive on the other side of 405. pub grub, bar games, and cabbies to bullshit with . Touche - 14th/Glisan. if it wasn't for the pinball and TG on tap i wouldn't consider. Jimmy Maks - jazz club with good (and cheap) greek food. may have music and a $5 cover that night.. the pearl is a vacuum for decent drinking establishments - i wouldn't mind a walk or streetcar ride from NW or downtown. anyone else have ideas?

need some 12pt steel strap-on crampons. the old charlet super 12, black ice, or ecrins would work but prefer the BD contact or sabertooths. pm if you have some - i'm in PDX.

does anyone have more input on the weather up there this weekend? website is saying 30% chance on Sat and 70% on Sun - curious what some locals might make of this forecast...

tex - i assume you need a pulley for the valley. if you are hauling any serious weight, don't use anything less than the pro traxion. the pulley on the mini is too small... if you still have had no luck - send me a pm.

wayne - it looks like there are none left at climb axe... care to post another?

Portland hand specialists recommendations
mwills replied to Gaper_Jeffy's topic in Fitness and Nutrition Forum
bump - looking for one in the area as well. A2 pulley on middle finger. if not, can anyone reccomend rehab that worked well for them. pretty sure it is a partial tear - i've been off for about 2 months. only slight pain when applying resistance and no pain when pressure applied on top of pulley. besides massage and ice/hot - what else has worked for you? ultrasound? -
i agree - good beer, great people, and some eye candy to keep your attention. looking forward to the next - the best trips are born from debauchery. thanks to the host/hostess and TG for the beer.

mwills replied to layton's topic in Oregon Cascades

for headphones, go with the Grado Labs SR60: http://www.turntablelab.com/index1-eq.html these are hands down the best headphones for the price. they were designed with portable players in mind and don't need an amp. don't bother with FM transmitters. for those with a decent receiver in their vehicle, you can use an use an RCA auxilary input adapter on the cd-changer port. i did this and the sound is great. if you have some money to waste, i heard that alpine has a deck which you can used to control the ipod...... http://www.alpine-usa.com/products/leading_technology/leading_tech_kca-420i.htm

have to second the vote for Lompoc - $2 pints on Mondays. good beer!! but then you would have to miss the $.50 cent tacos at Nob Hill. for clubs, the Gypsy is a pretty good time. music-wise, Bitter End at 20th/burnside gets some good shows. Stepping Stone cafe at 24/Quimby has good breakfast. the best coffee in the area is at Vivace on 23rd/Pettygrove. oh, and for Sushi you have to go to Mio Sushi at 23/Johnson.

i have an ipod and use J. River Media Center (http://www.musicex.com/mediacenter/). a few things i like about this over itunes are: -you can create playlists on your desktop machine and 'drop' them on your music player. these playlists are then the same on your music player. -you can use very simple code to make your own playlists -it creates 'smartlists' - playlist that are created automatically. these can include favorite songs (based on rating or amount played), recenlty imported music, untagged files, etc. check it out, it has many features. but, i still use itunes to preview music on the itunes store:)

ah, hey jason - good to hear from you. yep, i'm here in PDX for a while. sure i am from iowa but i do appreciate good music. but iowa is not too far away from southern illinois which is not too far from arkansas..... layton, where are slumming these days. i just moved into a place in NW. there are plenty of good bars around up here, some with good music. just have to keep your ears open. some good shows coming up Badly Drawn Boy (brit pop), Deathcab for Cutie (indie pop - b'ham boys with a knack for catchy music and good songwriting), Joanna Newsome (lo-fi folky stuff - she plays a harp, definitely different), Mason Jennings (indie pop/rock - puts on a good show), John Vanderslice (indie rock - and he rocks), Wilco (prolly heard of them), PJ Harvey (her too), etc. i'll be going to these shows so shoot me a pm if you are interested. anyone climbing at the portland rock gym this winter. time to start training again.

ok, i recently moved to PDX from heaven (Iowa). does anyone here take advantage of the live music scene in this city? it's too good to be absolutely absent from discussion. it must be the lack of jam bands.... c'mon, queensryche is in town next week

i'm in pdx and would be up for smith, beacon, or broughton - in order of preference. i could be talked into WA Pass if the objective is right.....
