Going Saturday, will report back. I know theres some ice but how good? We shell see. -
Only been up to Coulee City, none of the lower climbs are in. Golf course routes are close. Need some melt to form most of them. Punchbowl may be in, but did'nt want to make the drive up. This new snow may help. Theres ice around if you can find runoff, just not there yet.Paul

Have a pair for sell, son bought them last year, wore them 3 times. They are too small for him, size 43. Will part with them for 325.00. Send PM Paul

They where put there by the House of blues to counter act the overflow of people from concerts. A pact they made with Grant co, to show they are doing there part. I do not know who is in charge of them now.

Since when is the Coulee a wildlife refuge, its owned by the Department of Wildlife, which is ours,if your a tax payer but not a refuge. Most of the wildlife lives next to or in the ponds that are created by water runoff from near by fields. And on the cliffs that we climb on. Its a multi-use area. Climbing, hunting, hiking, biking, fishing, and whatever people want on there land, as long as they follow what the states agency that is taking care of it for us allows. They manage it for wildlife, theres just not much around with all the people. Like anywhere people visit to much.

How To Question; placing screws on steep ice...
Paul_detrick replied to rockermike's topic in Ice Climbing Forum
He was not asking about everyone elses view on clean climbing, he wanted to know some tricks on steep ice. Again what you think is ok to do is cool, but at the end of the day if he had fun, thats kool too. Another trick I have used in the past when I was learning was to take the rope and lupe it over your tool, bury the tool and its almost like a top rope. My tools have a notch on the top it sides right in. Easier than cliping the tool. -

All ice climbing is aid, crampons, tools its all the same. When ever you start out doing something new there will be a learning cruve. You have to get on the ice and try it, to find out what works for you. Not everyone does it the same way as you can tell by replys. Try it on toprope first and workout a system. Form is all in your head, you will know when its right for you. Its about having fun and reaching your goals. Im old school I still use leaches on my tools, does that mean I have bad form, not to me. I agree with the statment falling is bad form. Go slow, be safe. And this is not a flame on anyone else, JMHO -
You can still go north. We went up and played on the punchbowl, took a young lady for her frist time. All the deathsicicles where gone over the right side. The ice was Plastic. Should have done Zenith Friday, its all still there. Don't know if it will last the week. Still fun to be had.

Got off work at noon and drove up to scope things out. Theres a lot of ice but it is starting to rot out. We climbed Trotskys folly and it was in good shape, until about 300 pn, than it was a snowcone. Ice is changing fast. Most of the climbs looked scary from the road, but still might be climbable. Champagne is there, looks thinner and ready to come down?????. Might rain tomorow if it does that will be the end of it. Puchbowl should be around for a while if you just want to climb, but there are the deathsickles.

Theres still snow on the ground, warm today but the wind blew like hell. In fact they have shut down some roads by Spokane. But if the sun is shining on the wall it could be kool. Says showers on my forecast.

Cold injury boot question
Paul_detrick replied to webnick2007's topic in Fitness and Nutrition Forum
Yes I have. Happen a couple years in a row, I thought I had frostbite. Lost both bigtoe nails. Bought a new pair of boots and it went away. Old boots were Nepal Tops, loved those boots, not real warm, but great feel. I would try differnt boots, maybe a halfsize bigger than you have now. And some that don't run narrow. Good luck I know that sucks. Paul -

Read my mind{short story} was going to this week. Maybe Wensday. I'll post and let you know.
-
Don't think it forms often enought to have a name. Was falling a part, and spiting rocks while we were there. Could have been fun when it was colder.
-
Great, we climbed Champagne and it is in great shape. Did not get as warm as yesterday. Will post some picthers as soon as my partner emails me them. Should be good tomorow. Going with a group to mess around with some lines by Lenore. Should be good farther north.

It was 45 here today, and shit was melting fast, it better get cold tonight, Im climbing tomorow.
