  4. i DONT THINK MINKS BARK... SNARL, YUP.....
  5. Yeah I know all about the "Skaha advantage"; Howie tried to fix it in the current guide with selective downgrades except of many of his own routes, he he. McLane retaliated by making most of Squamish's classic 5.7s like Diedre into 5.8s. Squamish guide gets along fine with mostly abcd, ditto leavenworth guide, J Tree etc. The only place that McLane uses +/- is in the New Routes yellow pages and thats cause many of those routes tend to be unrepeated so the grade is a bit of a guess. But you can write 10 c/d just as easily as 10+ in those cases so why bother even using the +. The only place + grades should be used is in Sandbags like the grade of "Payanoia' is 5.9+
  6. 'climb with my brain' as opposed to with your mouth like us sprayers????????????

  12. Someone is monkeying around here. I go from 2 stars and 53 rates to 4 stars and 54 rates. I think that is technically impossible, or if not, someone explain to me how it happens????? Stars are for losers anyways
  13. I dont know if bob cotter is a dork or not, and i dont know if his routes are hard or not because i havent done any of them, but he is guilty of some supreme chestbeating in published articles in AAJ, CAJ, Mountain, High and the Canmore Clubhouse logbook, and this aroused the ire of th Canadian Rockies "Social Climbing Club" (Jo Jo, Twight, Blanchard, Robinson etc.) and they reflected this in the choice of some route names. He may have taken note cause I havent seen any Cotter spray in the mags or anywhere since about 1997...either that or editors have imposed a blanket rejection on his work... who knows.
  14. i havent been to whistler since november how would i know. but i heard it is 2-3 lanes and expect high traffic volumes apres ski.
  15. we like proper editing, not improper editing... editing with panache, style and grace.

  17. I dontretire ropes. I use them till they are dangerous then leave them fixed on uncompleted mountain projects a la Beckey in the 60s.
  18. I hate the +/- vs. a-d DISTINCTION used to distinguish between sport and trad routes used in Red Rocks and Skaha. Its totally bogus. If you can say that a sport route is 10c certainly you should be able to say that a crack climb is 10c and not vaguely 10+. Also for a long time there I knew my lead limit for onsight was about 10a for both trad and sport, and it always made me worry about 10- cracks at Skaha, like if it (crack rated 10-) was "really" 10a I was confident I could send, but if it was "really" 10b I would probably pitch off..... Same argument applies to many other gradations brought out by abcd and hidden by +/-.... also I think it is used by incompetent guidebook editors to make themselves feel they are climbing harder than they are, they call 10a 10-, 10b 10, 10c 10+, and 10d 10+/11- or just 11-.... wankers also should you give a route with 6 bolts and 2 gear placements a trad (+/-) or Sport (abcd) grade???? Huh??
  19. Here is the line someone skiied on the summit pyramid. If you can ski it does it need the roped together and 15 pickets seige mentality or what? I suppose it does under certain conditions for certain experience levels but it seems the potential for bowling alley wipeouts a la Hood last spring, is high. Actually if you had that many inexperienced people in the gully NOT roped together there would still be thesame probability of "bowling for newbies" and mass wipeouts sliding down to the bottom of the gully. So whatever
  20. THere's 4-6 inches of either, powder, or surface hoar, i dunno which, up around Manning park. Or, there was on Saturday, before the latest precip.
  21. Mr. Clean is butch - look at that earring. Matt - I think you misinterpret the exchange between me and caveman, no one was insulting or pissed off. As to erasing the material why bother? Its not like it had any detrimental bearing on the original posts? What I mean is: someone new to the thread, would still log on and read the original posts in order, and glean the info therefrom. By the time they got to my and Ray's exchange either they would see it as a humorous counterpoint, or lose interest. No need to delete it because it did not diminish or disparage the info content of the original posts. Maybe if we had been claiming that the original posters did not climb the route but had had a 3 way orgy at the bivi or something, and that their route info was fully made up and wronmg, then it would be time to delete. ? I dunno. Not like there was any factual misinformation in the deleted posts except maybe that Ray blamed Alex instead of Matt or whatever - I dunno cause that stuff is deleted and i cant check it to see.
  22. If only mtn goat and J_B would follow your example!
  23. But at winter alpine bivies, when your down bag is a frozen clump, youll be wishing youd bought syntho. Cheaper, less durable, but works a little bit when soaked and frozen..huh.
