  6. Kananaskis: Backcountry Avalanche Report Report valid: March 10, 2003 until further notice This report is for backcountry terrain only. Skiing conditions for facility areas are not included in this report. For current trail conditions please see our Trail Reports. Avalanche danger scale Alpine Considerable Treeline Considerable Below Treeline Moderate Discussion: A strong southwesterly flow has been established and temperatures have moderated but with the warmth comes the wind. Extreme winds with gusts well in excess of 100 km/h along ridgetops are being observed. Intense wind transport of snow onto lee aspects is occurring. Cornice formation is enhanced with the wind and loose snow available for transport. Avalanche Danger on north and east aspects at and above treeline will trend towards HIGH as surface windslabs form. The storm snow from last week and the new slabs will add additional load to the weak base of depth hoar and facets that persists through the area. The November crust has deteriorated signifigantly over much of the area but it is still a factor to consider and full depth releases remain likely. In sheltered areas at and below treeline, buried surface hoar layers from January and February can be found and they remain reactive to tests. Only snow flurries are expected over the next few days but daytime temperatures may exceed the freezing level so watch for the influences of heating on sun exposed aspects. Give careful consideration to large slopes above that may threaten your intended travel routes. Backcountry Travel Conditions: Good to excellent skiing can still be found on sheltered aspects. Travel conditions vary depending upon the presence of windloaded snow in upper elevation areas but below treeline travel conditions are still tough due to the weak base and the likelihood of full depth ski penetrations. Important Notice: Snowpack structure and stability information is determined from field analysis specific to snow study plot sites. Snowpack structure and stability will vary as you travel throughout mountainous terrain. It is, therefore, the responsibility of the backcountry traveller to be self-sufficient in being able to perform self-rescue should you, the traveller, be involved in an accident. Also, backcountry travellers are responsible for obtaining their own information concerning current weather conditions, snow, winds, snowfall, etc. and are responsible for educating themselves to the best possible awareness level. .................................................................................................... i heard moonlight is in fat again after melting out a while back though.

    Happy Anniversary

iain does your research prove caffeine worse than weed? its probably some Carolina skunkweed cut with rabbit pellets anyhow... but coming soon, USA declares War On Coffee. Seattle must give up wapons of mass caffeination ASAP. i also notice that the spider is not in the web marked "marijuana". it probably went out to the parking lot to play Ultimate and listen to String Cheese Incident and eat cheese covered flies.
  9. Are you really Canadian? You sound like you're from the states. i have practice listening to you guys.

a guy named alan m. told the world so on ukclimbing.com after doing an XI, 10 so he probably knows although stevie haston said there is nothing remotely hard in Scotland and they are all tossers.
  11. you gotta know a CMSlave to get a bro deal there. but they give the CMS employees like 25% off retail and an Arcteryx employee gets like 25% off wholseale which works out to 66% of retail or some shiz (0.75*0.5= 0.375 of retail price) no wonder i picked up 3 goretex jackets, 2 softshell and 4 fleece when i worked for the bird. couldnt afford not to at that deal.
  12. I'll wait for PMS to offer the definitive answer if these are the same route or what. It does sound like some discrepancies there although I would bet the description from the guy who did the route would be most accurate in many cases....

    Happy Anniversary

10 March In 1974 Lieutenant Hiroo Onoda of the Japanese army stopped fighting World War II. He dismissed the leaflets announcing the end of the war as American propaganda and remained in considerable discomfort on the tiny Philippine island of Lubang on which he had been marooned. Two years later, Shoichi Yokoi turned up in a cave on Guam, and another Japanese veteran was found in Indonesia in 1974. In December 1989, two Japanese civil engineers, who had been fighting with the communist guerrillas in Malaya since 1945, gave themselves up.

  16. On a positive note though, I found my Tikka!!! Buried under my tire jack. So I guess neither you, erik, danimal, micro, notgotmoney or jeff stole it after all, neither did lil' do rag from the can-ho.
  17. CMS is a fashion store and sells gear as an afterthought. i only shop there when people i know are working there and i can swing employee-discount bro deal. Nice place to buy Arcteryx if you cant get bro deal from the factory. Other than that, I wouldn't but plenty do. MEC (sorry Don& fishstick) seems to miss the boat alot when it comes to clothing design eg. making the Composite jacket which accentuates all the negatives of Powershield, instead of making like Arcteryx and coming out with a Light version. Then again MEC is a not-for-profit cooperative and makes decisions by collective decision process, yearly votes, etc.... the 1% of members who vote are not necessarily the ones who know the direction the store should be taking...
  18. to make it cc.com relevant instead of hot dogs one must eat or Gu. or do it yosemite style with the gallon of whole milk challenge.

    New 5.15a

that was weeks ago. and anyways, together with 8a.nu, we don't comment on unrated routes, but wait for spray monkey to attach shiny number to it. "freepoint" or not.
  20. "might makes right" hence the guy with the .45 has priority. "power comes out of the barrel of a gun" - Mao bring Greg W with you to all crowded crags if neither of you has a gun remember its easier to throw stuff down from top of crag, than it is to throw stuff up from bottom of crag in Euroland, in this situation, you just start climbing, and when they throw ropes down, you tie the ropes together and clip into the knot, then drop a coil on them afterwards, in pink goretex gaiters.
  21. Super Couloir is on SW face of N peak I thought Eve Dearborm MR was on the northeast face of middle peak. Hello??
  22. Did they accept their failure or blame other people/parties? they gloried in their failure which is kind of a strange thing to chestbeat about if you ask me.

spanish kid who has onsighted 14as climbs new claimed 15a extension to 14c alex huber route that a bunch of strong guys previously tried and couldn't do. i saw a movie about the route at VIMFF that was an obvious ripoff of Realization except it didnt have Chris Sharma in it.

    Spray Soundtrack

audioslut would be ok if only the singer would shut up and too bad morello/wilk (cant remember which one) doesnt get to pretend he's a dj anymore and make the scratchy guitar noise; reduced to standard cock rockin' accompaniment to some singer who sucked so much his own band dumped him.
  25. crag rage whip out your .45 and threaten em OR: grab their packs sitting at the base of the climb, and run away with their gear
