  13. The Pacific Bathtub Octopus, Octropus mammutus eurekii, is most often found lurking in dimly lit bathtubs, although they are supple and have infiltrated much of the plumbing in the Pacific Northwest. When surprised or displeased they will eject a venomous brown ink as a defense. This ink is the most common source of "bathtub rings" and should only be removed by a properly trained hygienist...
  14. i bought a maxim rope once. once was enough. i had an edelrid 11mm that lasted through about 8 years of heavy use currently have a bunch of mammut ropes. i wish they made a 8.5 that was rockfall proof though

Heh. Vancouver rocks, but I'd call bullshit on this. Fram what I've seen of both, Vancouver doesn't touch NYC when it comes to distinct and diverse. Who knows what they are actually comparing tho. There are a lot of grad school geographers at UBC who came from other parts of the world specifically to study why Vancouver has such a high urban diversity. It was one of them who told me the stat above. Yes, Van apparently beats out New yawk for numbe of "distinct neighbourhoods". I have no idea how exactly they measure it though.
  19. there are some professions where loving what you do is not a sufficient qualification, one must also demonstrate technical competency: for instance engineering. And, in most countries aside from the USA, guiding is also one of those professions. In the UK, based on his demonstrated level of experience I am certain Scott could qualify for his "Single Pitch Award" which would allow him to take groups of beginners top-roping - however his website suggests he is aiming for something more than this. Hence our doubts.
  20. You know there are two ways to interpret that quote. 1) Whoever has the most fun, is the best climber. Obnoxious hippy interpretation. "BRAH! Im TR dogging a 5.7 but its so much fun!!!" 2) The better a climber you are, the more fun you have. The world's best climber, is the one who has the most fun, cause you can climb shit that no one else can touch. I knnda think maybe meaning #2 is the one Alex subversively meant, cause he was "the world's best climber" there for a while it seemed. "You can't bring Alex - that's cheating!"

actually burnaby is pretty nice if you live near skytrain or in north burnaby along the hastings/sfu corridor. you can go to anton's for dinner and get enough leftovers to feed you for a week ---> since i am from west van originally i can only say ---> living in west van is for millionaire yuppies. but it sure was nice living walking distance from lighthouse park and cypress falls bouldering. living in chilliwack i have to drive 30kms to the nearest developed rock. don't live in surrey. end of story. surrey is a hole.
  23. So the W face of Siula Grande now has about 4 or 5 routes according to a topo in High Mountain sports. Avoiding the Touch climbs the bottom 2/3 of Simpson/yates then climbs straight up where the s/y line moves right. The other routes on the face are all to the left between Avoiding and the Simpson/Yates descent route. At least two of those routes were only completed to the summit ridge and not to the actual summit.
