I'm a newcomer. Now,let me introduce myself.I'm a college student in Shanghai. So ,my english isn't very well.Because i haven't much time and opportunity to communicate with those who speak english as you.But i need your help. Can you give me a brief introduction of ice climbing? As all of you are amateurs of ice climbing. Can you tell me the reason why you are keen on ice climbing? Whether you will reply me or not.Thank you for your skimming! Quote
StevenSeagal Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 This is what ice climbing is all about. It's super cool. [video:youtube] Quote
StevenSeagal Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 That's just how the amateurs do it. I'm not sure about the pro's, but I'm sure they take way bigger falls than that. Quote
LostCamKenny Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 I'm sure they take way bigger falls than that. Hopefully on a rope... Quote
Pete_H Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 And five hours later we finish pitch one, where we establish advanced base camp ... Quote
tilia Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 Is this guy for real?? "Slow is safe"?? And use webbing b/c it's static and exerts the least force on your tools? Good lord, - where the hell did he learn this stuff? Don't listen to that guy in the 2nd video marit, he's full of crap. At least according to everything I've been taught, and read in Accidents in North American Mountaineering. Quote

genepires Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 uhhhh, it also is the funniest damn thing I saw on the web in years. I liked it when he gets to the top and talks about belaying his partner up but realizes he doesn't have a rope on. Quote
tilia Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 It's funny until you read about some poor schmuck who followed the advice he found online on some youtube video and ended up in the hospital - that's all I'm saying. Actually, that might be funny too... MARIT - don't listen to that guy, it's NOT safe! Funny yes, kind of like a low speed auto accident, you can't look away but you can't believe what you're seeing. Alpine_Tom Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 You can laugh at that guy, but he probably gets more of a forearm workout climbing one pitch, than you do in two hours at the gym. Quote

Funnier, still is the thought of them thinking this video up and laughing at how funny they thought they were being... Quote
trainwreck Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 the guy in the video died two years ago in a free diving accident in the caribbean. he was a great climber, excellent guide, and all around awesome dude. it is understood by everyone that he was joking. Quote
