WELCOME TO THE CASCADECLIMBERS.COM FORUMS   02/03/18

We have upgraded to new forum software as of late last year, and it makes everything here so much better!  It is now much easier to do pretty much anything, including write Trip Reports, sell gear, schedule climbing related events, and more. There is a new reputation system that allows for positive contributors to be recognized,  it is possible to tag content with identifiers, drag and drop in images, and it is much easier to embed multimedia content from Youtube, Vimeo, and more.  In all, the site is much more user friendly, bug free, and feature rich!   Whether you're a new user or a grizzled cascadeclimbers.com veteran, we think you'll love the new forums. Enjoy!

Trip: The Bugaboos in few words, many photos - Snowpatch, WR of Pigeon, B-C, Ears Between

Date: 7/29/2015

Trip Report:

You already have all the beta you need for the Bugs, even if you've never been there. So I won't bore you with the details of the trip Cfire, Trent, Curtveld, Andy, and I took at the end of July. Suffice it to say that the crowds are there for a reason- even if you'll probably hunt for a parking place, fight for a campsite, be rained on, wait in line, and maybe even get struck by lightning. Thankfully, we only checked a few of those boxes.

But the Bugaboos are a beautiful range, even more so than I remembered.

Gear Notes:

The whole kit, and then some. Don't forget the Whiskey.

Approach Notes:

If you want a great place to camp the night before you hike in, I'd recommend Nature's Paradise in Brisco

For the major peaks/areas (Bugaboo, Snowpatch, Pigeon, South Howser, Crescent Spires) there are bolted, well-placed stations set up for 60m ropes. That wasn't the case 10 years ago, but the Bugs are now firmly on the international guiding circuit and the anchors reflect it. Bomber!

Some raps are set up for 70m. When we were rapping on W Face of Snowpatch and after B-Ch. we wished we had 70m with us. 60 is doable, but it was cutting it short on a couple of raps.

The man knows how to use his camera. Takes the pressure off me to get the shots :) Great trip with great dudes!

Bob is right, the guides have set up a lot of the rap routes with a 70m rope in mind. We made it work with 60's, but definitely made some stressful rope stretchers. The exception is the Bugaboo glacier raps, which are easily done with a 60. You just have to watch out for knuckleheads above.

Great photo's as usual Jason, you certainly have an eye for the scenery! And thanks for being mildly supportive during the B-C! ;) A memorable trip with some awesome partners!
