About a 4th of FOXNEWS articles focus on what the NYTIMES does or doesn't print. This weird media bullying tactic (which saves them a bundle in investigative reporting costs, of course) can, and often does backfire:

Why is the NYTIMES keeping Libya off the front page?

Oh, it isn't LOL:

No Shame

Plus, I think I'm one of about 3 people in America who read both, so its hard to see the point of such a maneuver, other than, perhaps, that FOX doesn't have anyone on their writing staff older than 19.

It's all part of their lamestream librul media propaganda campaign, which in itself is kind of laughable, since FOX has the highest viewership of any outlet, and the WSJ the highest of any newspaper.

Definitely entertaining to witness the infantilization of media. Let's hope Gen Y says 'let's get real for a change. We'll see.

A few days ago FOX issued a BIAS ALERT (an automatic feed from a blogger in some basement somewhere) against...wait for it:

Mother Jones.

The fact that for profit media has always explicitly endorsed both candidates and issues seems to have been lost on FOX's readership. Just another concept that's a little too complicated.

I know of more than 3 people in America who read both the NYT and FoxNews, and I salute you all. Your reporting on FoxNews is valuable for the rest of us -- people who, like myself, suffer a certain immune deficiency, such that viewing Fox first hand infects us with some type of a zombie virus that drives us to mindlessly chase down Republicans to eat their guts out. I know, I know, zombies are supposed to be brain-eaters. But, you know, that just wouldn't work, in this case, considering. Now, one might say the Cons are just as gutless as they are brainless, but from my personal experience I can assure you they are full of substantial quantities of large colon tissue and related contents. Fortunately, the pathology of said virus does seem to resolve in my case, provided I remain isolated from the source of infection. My only effective protection is prophylaxis, and for that I use Murdoch-Block on my browser, always avoid televisions in the wild, and make sure FoxNews reaches me only by vicarious means -- and for this, again, I'm grateful for you war correspondents who risk losing your sanity on the front lines.

The very thought of BIAS ALERTs and Bill O'Reilly and Hannity and Hell on Earth and... is almost too... much... oh, my gawd... must... find... guts...

for my weekly current event quizzes i daily cross-reference the main headlines for 6 different mainstream news sites - i thought it interesting today that fox was the only one to omit reference to a recent study concluding that the new hpv-vaccine doesn't instantly turn little girls into whores :)

FOX will ensure that you remain profoundly stupid if you look to it for news, of course. As a popular indicator of how human communication is evolving, and as a business, its interesting. Not innovative, but interesting.

FOX uses the profitable reality TV model: Hire 4 or 5 talking heads to be on camera, angry white guys and leggy tarts, then a combination of automatic feeds from Aryan Nation bloggers, heart warming tidbits about Homecoming Queens (the only queens you'll read about) from small town rags, tabloid mom-kills-baby-with-chainsaw stories from god knows where, and subscription feeds from the WSJ, all implement by a couple of unpaid, teenage interns.

Special guests include any republican who has had their ass handed to them in primary, and officials who've been fired for cause or otherwise narrowly escaped prison. If you've written a kooky book, even better.

Serve this corn-slurry up to an audience of metal detector enthusiasts and End Times nutters - an unvarying (conservatives do NOT like surprises) diet of 'freedom', 'America', and 3 or four other fatty staples in 'irony quotes' (no marketing department required), spiced up with STATUS QUO BUSTING QUESTIONS (Is 'education' really a good thing?), all with a side of Viagra advertisements and you've got a money gusher.

You've got to admire this implementation of pure capitalism. Utterly cynical to the point of psychopathy, but then, psychopaths tend to do very well in America. We provide the perfect environment for them to flourish.

Meh, it all depends on who is in office. When Bush was in office, he could say the sky is blue in a news conf, Fox news would report that the President said the sky was blue, MSNBC would report that the president eats puppies, scientists say the weather is getting warmer, quagmire in Iraq and oh ya the Preident was kind of sure the sky was blue. I'm sure now that Obama is in office, you can reverse that completely.

The news is not news anymore, it is a reality TV show trying to score ratings. Foreign news is so much better than our news it is stupid.

where does pbs fit into that picture? the blogosphere? i'm not so sure the state run news of syria or russia is blowing fox out of the water.

if nothing else, liberal news is better at being critical of itself - conservative news allows no self-doubt.

Like al jazeera

i haven't read much of AJ, but my understanding is that they're not all bad - certainly not the mere mouth-pieces of middle eastern dictators, at least...
