brad Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 So much for that. Looks like they just cleared out the campground. I hope this doesn't drag on TOO long. Quote
brad Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Wow Dave, you and i have quite a knack for posting at exactly the same time!! Funny! Quote
Dave A. Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Hi, Brad. According to the news release they are building a temporary bypass through the campground. This will only be for use by the few people who live above there and the contractor who will be hauling the debris to a dumpsite upvalley. That part surprised me, I would have figured on it going the other direction. Â Â Quote
John Frieh Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 What's the latest? How many extra miles of walking to reach 8 mile currently? Quote
ryanb Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 You can park right at the JY crags/boulders pull out across from 8-mile campground (which will supposedly open Friday). Â More updates on the clearing plans can be found here: http://www.justgetout.net/Wenatchee/21914 Quote
John Frieh Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Thanks. Has anyone ventured up toward colchuck since the slide? I'm wondering if anything came down higher up Quote
Dave A. Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 It's about one mile from current parking to where the road has been closed for the winter(at Eightmile road and Bridge Creek CG). As of Saturday none of the slide has been removed, and there is no equipment onsite. The mud is dry enough to walk up and covers about 1200 feet of roadway. Boulderers, get your brushes out. There's a new, house-sized boulder a couple hundred feet above the road. Dave A. Quote
kevino Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Where ya heading John? Â What is the general snow level on the north slopes of the icicle? Thanks... Quote
alecapone Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 (edited) Only a few big boudlers on 8 mile rd, and it's snow free until the 10 mph truck sign. Â stuart lake TH has a couple feet of snow. Â mt creek bridge crossing is nearly to the rails. Â every thing above... super fat! Â bring mt bike for first and last 3 miles? Edited April 20, 2011 by alecapone Quote
John Frieh Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Thanks for the updates everyone! Â @Kevin: something on the NE face of Stuie is high on my to do list but I'm game for just about anything in there Quote
Dave A. Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 USFS recreation report says clearing of mudslide debris is out for bids, and is expected to be complete by mid-may. Dave A. Quote
soulkeep Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 Thank you suggest, but good things to come. Quote
mountainmatt Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 As of last weekend, the slide is still about ~800 feet long, 1' deep at the start, and maybe 8' at the end. The stream was flowing over the top, and the trees/boulders that are near the end are impressively large. I ran into Jens and Sol and they heard rumor of it opening at the end of May, just a rumor though... Â Â . Quote
spotly Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 What he said. Plus the campgound was packed as expected considering it's the only one you can get to. Even the secret spots further down the road were full. Quote

Dave A. Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Work has begun clearing the mudslide at eightmile campground. The FS notice at the closure said they were hoping to have it doneby the 27th. Quote
wbk Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 just got off the phone with FS: road is open again, mudslide work completed Quote
nels0891 Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 just drove by the section that had the mudslide an hour or two ago.... that thing pushed around some big boulders. time for all the boulderers to break out the brushes and get to work. Quote
powdrx Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 So the mudslide is now cleared (pretty awesome sight)... any word on the gate at Bridge Creek?? Â Â Quote
agreenstreet Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 Bridge Creek gate is open as of yesterday afternoon. Also, snow free to the Stuart Lake Trailhead. Quote
tilia Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 New slide from just up-road from the 4th of July Trailhead, happened around noon today (Fri, 6/10/11). The road is blocked by mud and debris just past that. Â Barricades are up just past Bridge Creek Campground -- Icicle Road is now closed past that point. Access to Stewart/Colchuck Trailhead via 8-Mile/Mountaineer Creek Road is not affected. Â First photo showing the 1st lobe of the slide, second photo with a little better view of the 2nd lobe. I think there's a total of 3 - so far. More stuff came down about an hour ago. Â Quote
KaskadskyjKozak Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Â Wow, totally unexpected. Thanks for the update! Quote
