Possibly iffy weather, likely cold and some snow. Tried to go at the end of March several years back and couldn't get there from SLC. Multiple storms in a row capped by 3 feet of snow on I-70 east of Green River at the end of my trip. Snowboarded in SLC instead and went to Red Rocks for a few days.

April and October are your best bets in my experience.

Spent ~10 days on the Colorado Plateau in March and drove back to Seattle with the same bag of ice in the Cooler that we drove out there with.

Chase the sun and be prepared for some mighty chilly nights and/or snow.

we are in boulder for one weekend at the end of February and are looking to climb somewhere within driving range of Denver for the next week...

any ideas? Moab could be ok or could suck...

I lived in albuquerque (5hours from the Creek) and climbed there all months of the year. The problem with winter is that one week it could 60 degrees and sunny in the day and the next week it could 28 (and probably still sunny). It's can be a good excuse to go hike around and look at things if its just too cold to be comfortable.

Climbed there mid-late December last year during a serious cold snap, below freezing temps, south-facing sun-drenched cracks (there are plenty of them) were still tolerable.

maybe just keep the options open?? If the IC forecast is cold, you could head down and sport climb at shelf road, climb in the S. platte, or go skiing.

Shelf is definitely an option! Skiing is waaaaay too expensive for a family of 5...
