JosephH Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 He's doing the Flying Dutchman rap - the best way off Grassy Ledges. Quote
LostCamKenny Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 (edited) kenny, looks like i'm not one of the cool kids after all... I wouldn't worry bout it... neither of us is as cool as dave since he had his wife on the ledge for a night - i've never been able to talk my better half into going up there! beaconben Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 Thanks for the invite out east Steve. I will try to remember to take you up on that Quote
stevetimetravlr Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Looks like this week's weather might allow a few Beacon sessions. Skied Mt Hood Meadows today and since it was closed yesterday due to extreme storm, it was epic conditions this morning in 2 feet of new, and in the sunshine all day. At 2:30 they opened the upper chair Cascade, and got to plunder the upper part of the mountain, sweet pow. It was warming up there, so I think this week will put a heavy crust up on Hood, and it it chills back up next weekend, could be good winter ascent conditions. Bring it on Ben, anytime! Quote
stevetimetravlr Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Joseph, why is the Flying Dutchman rap the best way off the Grassy Ledges? I thought Jills Thrill or Blownout were best, do you mean just on that side of grassy ledges, or the easiest way off Grassy Ledges period? As I have never rapped that way. Quote
JosephH Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Steve, two clean, fast raps to the ground with a 60, one w/ two 60's. If you do it with a single 60 then you have to remember to go to the 'Bears in Heat' anchor out of sight around the corner to the left near the end of the first rap - don't go to either of the anchors your can see as you start rapping and especially don't try to reach the one on the right. Only go to that one if you have a 70. Quote
JosephH Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Also, both anchors are hanging. The top one has a short safety rope out to it that you can clip into until you are situated on the actual anchor. Both raps are dead vertical. It's also the best place at Beacon to do jugging and hauling practice. Quote
billcoe Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 Any of the Beacon crew want to drive on out to Hood river and we'll take you guys cragging out here? When its raining at Beacon many times, it will be sunshining out east here. I'd love to connect sometime once the weather gets bad....I can only belay to 5.10 these days however...... That looks a lot like Ivan except this dude is free climbing and not hanging on gear....HUH? Quote
stevetimetravlr Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 Bill, absolutely you and the crew should all head out here on a sunny day for some cragging when its miserablely windy or rainy at Beacon areas. We'll show you guys the ropes out east here! Quote
