thelawgoddess Posted August 28, 2002 Posted August 28, 2002 i would like to go do this climb ... Quote
Cpt.Caveman Posted August 28, 2002 Posted August 28, 2002 I dont know about 22p but If you drive into the alpine club hut in canmore there will be about 6-10 people that might want a partner and might be willing to do that route. It's waiting for you. Probably start collecting snow really really soon though. I think its actually somewhere near 18 pitches of 25 meters each pitch or something close to that. Resulting in really about 11 pitches according to Dru. [ 08-28-2002, 02:35 PM: Message edited by: Cpt.Caveman ] Quote
Dru Posted August 28, 2002 Posted August 28, 2002 even though it is a sport climb you will need a helmet. i think trask has a purple one he will let you use. Quote
Cpt.Caveman Posted August 28, 2002 Posted August 28, 2002 Trask said if you buff his helmet he would lead all the 10d pitches. PS limestone gets greasy quick. Quote
Dr_Flash_Amazing Posted August 28, 2002 Posted August 28, 2002 Didn't he say he would be polishing it all weekend? Quote

Cpt.Caveman Posted August 28, 2002 Posted August 28, 2002 That's a long way to go for a route or two of Rock. I personally think Yosemite with the option of Tuolomne ORG is a better trip. But if you are into it cool. You can probably find routes just as good or better in Squamish which is about 10 hours less driving. Quote
Geek_the_Greek Posted August 28, 2002 Posted August 28, 2002 Bah, if Chinaman's was the original name, it should stand. Changing the name in the hope of undoing a lot of historical racism is BS. Keep the original name as a reminder of all the Chinese blood that was spilled building the trans-can railroad. Quote

I support changing its name to Mt. Dru after my historic ascent in 2002. Although really a more appropriate name would be Mt. Szechuan Potsticker cause that is what it looks like if you squint. Quote
fern Posted August 28, 2002 Posted August 28, 2002 like I said above, 'Ha Ling Peak' is the original name. 'Chinaman's Peak' is the lazy popular label. Maybe they should rename it Mt. Trudeau Quote
Geek_the_Greek Posted August 28, 2002 Posted August 28, 2002 Ok. I concede. For some reason I thought it was 'retronamed' Ha Ling because people thought Chinaman's was offensive. Whatever. Quote
iain Posted August 28, 2002 Posted August 28, 2002 That's what I thought too. I think I saw it in the AAC gazette a few months back or maybe in the calgary section's newsletter. whatever. Quote
Cpt.Caveman Posted August 29, 2002 Posted August 29, 2002 I hereby declare the name Smokadope Spire Quote

Dru Posted August 29, 2002 Posted August 29, 2002 Scott is nowhere near as burly as Lena. Dat girl is a professional circus acrobat in her non-climbing spare time. Quote
