dberdinka Posted January 16, 2009 Share Posted January 16, 2009 (edited) My guess is that the you would be stopped by snow well before the river crossing which is about 5 miles from Mosquito Lake Road. From the river is ~5 miles to the end of the logging roads so now add a couple more more miles of slogging onto that. I could see doing one of them in a long sloggy weekend. But thats just a guess. I presume there is no chance of driving UP the road to north side of Slesse, but can you at least get to the turnoff? And can you typically get there most of the winter? marc_leclerc Posted January 18, 2009 Share Posted January 18, 2009 Colin, You should be able to drive right to the riverside campground beside 'chlliwack lk rd' at the start of Nesakwatch Creek FSR. From there it is just over 5km of walking to the Slesse Memorial trailhead. Its been warm around here so you 'may' be able to drive up the road a little bit, But with all the flooding/lanslides we had recently Im guessing that most of these access roads are going to be really f#*ked up so walking may be the way to go. G-spotter Posted January 19, 2009 Author Share Posted January 19, 2009 It's like Marc said. You can drive to the turnoff from pavement and you will be skiing from there. Also, once you cross Nesakwatch Creek and get onto the trail on old logging road leading up to the Memorial and Propellor Cairn, the snow is weighing down the alders and pushing them onto the road. We were up there a month ago to check conditions and gradually progressed from walking (and pushing alders out of the way) to ducking, to full on crawling through the snow before we gave up and turned around.
