Fairweather
AVALANCHE...STARTING WITH PERHAPS THE MOST FRAGILE SNOWPACK IN THE PAST 20 YEARS...THE INCREASING WINDS...HEAVY PRECIPITATION AND RISING FREEZING LEVELS EXPECTED LATE FRIDAY INTO EARLY SATURDAY SHOULD RAPIDLY RAMP UP OUR AVALANCHE DANGER. FOLLOW THIS WITH HEAVY RAIN OR SNOW...STRONG WINDS AND SLOW COOLING LATER SATURDAY...AND WE HAVE A RECIPE FOR VERY DANGEROUS CONDITIONS IN THE BACK COUNTRY AND GENERALLY HIGH DANGER LIKELY IN MOST LOCATIONS. HUMAN TRIGGERED SLIDES OF NEW SNOW SHOULD BE LIKELY AND SOME SLIDES SATURDAY COULD INVOLVE ALL OF OUR CURRENT SNOWPACK TO DATE...WHICH HAS VERY WEAK FACETS AND RECRYSTALLIZED SNOW NEAR THE GROUND. AVALANCHE WARNING HAS BEEN ISSUED TO EMPHASIZE THE DANGERS. GOOD TIME TO SHOVEL DRIVEWAYS OR EXCHANGE GIFTS AT THE MALL. PLEASE SEE www.NWAC.US FOR DETAILS. Smokes, gossip, my paleolithic spaghetti. its not ghey if you close your eyes, right? It's only ghey if you get buried for eternity and some archeologist like Raindawg finds you 2,000 years from now. PS, the ice is melting too. Have fun but be safe. God I sound like my mother did 30 years ago. Edited December 27, 2008 by billcoe
tvashtarkatena
The Lillooet area receives too little snowfall to have avalanches. In addition, none of the major routes have snowfields above them. Temperatures remain below freezing, so the ice is just getting fatter and fatter. Honeyman and Nicoeman were both in, if a bit on the wet side. Ya just gotta know where to go. tvashtarkatena
The Lillooet area receives too little snowfall to have avalanches. Take that attitude up Night N' Gale or Isodorth and see how accurate it is. With less than 6 inches of light powder on the ground in the area, (and probably less at Night N Gale, an even dryer locale, pretty accurate, even now. And two out-of-the-way routes out of hundreds don't exactly constitute a quorum. But I guess that's what the interwebs are for; you don't really have to go to a place to know better than anyone else exactly what's going on. And no one works that avenue of expertise better than our very own Dru.
