Does anybody know where I can get a mesh vest. No this is not some kinky sex thing. I want to sew nylon to the back and make a vapor barrior out of it but keep the front airy for venting.

don't football players sometimes wear a mesh shirt that you could cut the sleeves off?

construction workers use a high visability mesh vest in summer. Work and more in everett sells stuff like that.

This is true. But you get sweaty and soak out your clothing on your back. But a VB next to the skin or with only one thin layer under neath will keep the rest of your clothing dry and you warmer. I have tried this before, putting silinylon on the back of an old thin thermal shirt that I would layer over. It worked great, but the funk factor was twice as fast. After a couple of washings the silinylon was toast. The vest would not need to be washed or it would be easly washed by hand vs. a shirt with the VB.

Something to try at least.

Years ago, you could buy "fishnet underwear". I have a tee shirt made of this material. It is very effective. The idea is to create dead air space against the skin without a lot of weight. If you wear under a zip neck shirt it's really easy to vent.

I've got one of the golite vests, silnylon in the back, breathable nylon in the front. I think it rarely gets cold enough around here that I'm wearing my puffy insulation while working hard. It does work but I end up with the top rear of my pants getting wet instead, not sure which is more uncomfortable. I keep mine around just in case it's gonna be below zero (F) on a multiday trip.

I have to chime in with my $0.02.

I tried a system as you've described and it wasn't the cats meow for me. It just made my back soggy. Then I tried a pearl izumi mesh backed vest, and I was much much happier. It might be worth a try...Mine is like this one, and but not in such a nice color.
