Panos Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 Hello folks, At thanksgiving I am going to Whistler for skiing and I would be interested to have a rest day from skiing doing some ice climbing instead. Is there any steep ice in condition in the area ? Any guide book ? Any internet resources ? Any help would be much appreciated. I am also looking for a partner since my skiing friends do not ice climb. I lead WI4+. Cheers, Ibex Quote
Matt Kidd Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 http://www.rei.com/product/725399 Check this before you go for possible reports on conditions - http://www.westcoastice.com/ I might be free to get out as well depending when you are going. Fire me a PM if you are interested. Quote
gertlush Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 I'm no ice climber but November in Whistler you're probably not going to find anything unfortunately. Quote

marc_leclerc Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 From Vancouver drive East on Hwy #1, pick me up, and go to one of the many ice routes around the Fraser Valley. Quote
jmace Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 What routes are in, in the valley this weekend? Quote
marc_leclerc Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 I bet the Sumallo Headwall routes could be in... Wanna climb one? Quote
steller Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 The sumallo head wall routes could suffer warm temps as well. the last time is was below 0 at Foundation mines (closest remote wx stn) 0300 nov 24th. Thats at 1650 meters high. the temps do tend to invert in there. so u may be in luck! Just a heads up. its currently 2.2 degrees at foundation WX stn. Chris. Quote
fern Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Sumallo headwall is nowhere near Whistler - i.e. make a new thread and don't confuse the tourons Quote
marc_leclerc Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Sumallo Headwall is near Whistler if you are looking from space... Quote
