billcoe Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Last year was off the hook fun! Isn't this the "Second annual" comp John? Good on PRG to let it fly again, I know Gary only gets Karma Points for having everyone drytool the shit out of his holds. Ahh, but what points!
godskid5 Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 how does that work? are you using tools and crampons on the regular rock wall? or just tools? is this open to anyone? ive only done a little ice climbing, a couple times on elot glacier, and on some hard snow about 15ft high at timberline where the plow piles it up!! and i have one old pair of tools, really old, and a mixed pair!! sounds like fun!
mkporwit Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 If it is anything like what we used to have up here in Everett, then tools yes, crampons no. Use rock shoes or mountaineering boots instead.
Farrgo Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 Ice tools and rock shoes. They had demos to climb on last year so you probably don't need to bring some old beaters. If you haven't gone the comp is fun... or alternatively just drinking beer is argueably more fun.
ivan Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 maybe i'll even be able to show early enough this year to compete?
John Frieh Posted September 2, 2008 Author Posted September 2, 2008 Isn't this the "Second annual" comp John? Third actually! how does that work? are you using tools and crampons on the regular rock wall? or just tools? is this open to anyone? Farrgo nailed it: tools and rock shoes. And you cant hit the until after you've climbed maybe i'll even be able to show early enough this year to compete? You should! Comp routes in the past have favored taller individuals What else? We will be raising money for the Washington Climbers Coalition this year! Stay tuned for more details!
kevbone Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 So people will be dry tooling on plastic holds while wearing climbing shoes? Will there be ice?
billcoe Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 So people will be dry tooling on plastic holds while wearing climbing shoes? Will there be ice? Yes, plenty of ice, however, it will all be in the drinks that have the lil umbrellas in them and around the keg.
John Frieh Posted September 2, 2008 Author Posted September 2, 2008 There will be some foam ice on the comp routes but as pure ice climbing is easy () we will minimize the amount present. There will be plenty of foam ice to demo new tools out on
kevbone Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 I suppose my point is it is hard to call it an "ice" festival when it is indoors. Just like calling a "rock" climbing comp when it is also indoors. my 2 cents. I will try to come and support the locals either way.......
billcoe Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Maybe you have a better name in mind? Share it with us.
kevbone Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 How about "Dry tooling on plastic in fall"?
billcoe Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 How about "Dry tooling on plastic in fall"? no ring to it.
kevbone Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Well, Ice festival with no ice........just saying.
John Frieh Posted September 2, 2008 Author Posted September 2, 2008 For a 250 dollar donation I will gladly rename the festival Kevin. It's for the Washington Climber Coalition! Where your two favorite crags are located!
kevino Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Last year it was as cross country meet - so I quit that. This year I have mountain rescue training - what gives? If Sobo reads this, can this count as fall rigging? They're going to be ropes in use?
billcoe Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Well, Ice festival with no ice........just saying. I got it I got it: "Tool Festival"
billcoe Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 I give you $250 bucks and you'll name it "Tool Festival"? I don't know..... Lets wait for me to start drinking and revisit it, only way that could happen, and it might after beer #4 or so...never know.
John Frieh Posted September 2, 2008 Author Posted September 2, 2008 Ill let you sleep on it But do buy some raffle tickets @ the event! Lots of sweet schwag to win this year!
kevbone Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Well, Ice festival with no ice........just saying. I got it I got it: "Tool Festival" Perfect. Who would want to attend a "beer" festival with no beer?
godskid5 Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 how bout the "Tools with Fools festival"?, ore better yet the "Fools and Tools Fest 08"? I do believe I will come. The competition is open to anyone eh? even super ice noobs? sounds like my kinda place!
