unklehuck Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Does Gorge Creek Falls form with any regularity? Has anyone climbed this thing? Not really sure what winter is like at Newhalem, but it looks like it would be a pretty sweet line. Quote
Phil K Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Pure speculation here, but WTF.... I doubt that it freezes to a "climbable" state very often if ever. Elevation is pretty low, prolly' not much above 1000', and the flow is high enough that it would take some serious cold to do the job. Of course, I've been wrong before. Quote
unklehuck Posted August 19, 2008 Author Posted August 19, 2008 Thanks. Still getting tuned into to the whole elevation require for freezing thing...coming from way upstate NY where elevation isn't much of a factor..winter is balls cold wherever you are! Quote
Phil K Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Mmmmm, going to have to recalibrate then. Yeah, it tends to be relatively warm in Western Warshington. Not usually too much worthwhile below 3 -4 thousand feet. OTOH, Banff is less than a 12 hour drive! Quote
kevino Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 and banks lake is less than that. same with canada. Quote
Tokogirl Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 In Leavenworth we often get some very nice up the Icicle Road, Tumwater Canyon, etc. with only a 2.5+ hour drive. Quote
genepires Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 I think it froze up some 3000 years ago in a freak mini iceage. Quote
kurthicks Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Lots of stuff down there freezes in the winter. it's thin. wait for prolonged cold with cloud cover. tons of mixed potential. go explore Quote
