underworld Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 I'm not sure if these are a new nut on the market or not, but i got some recently and had the first opportunity to use them on sunday. some luscious upper town wallin allowed for many offset nut placements. these things are the bomb. cheaper than hb offsets and easier to get. $10.50 each or a set (1-5) for $45. just wanted to get the word out on another offset micro nut option. specs Quote
Blake Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 nobody touches the british (HB, DMM) when it comes to splendid nuttery and fiddly little gear. Quote
G-spotter Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 Peenuts have been out for about 12 years. I find them kind of annoying, unless the flare of the crack perfectly matches the flare of the nut, they fall out. Quote
tradclimbguy Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 I'd agree that the angle on them seems to be too shallow. I only have about four on my rack, although they were all finders up at Index over the last handful of years. I still bring and lead on them depending on the route. They go on my odd nut rack of micro's and offsets for when you need something like that. Quote
underworld Posted April 16, 2008 Author Posted April 16, 2008 unless the flare of the crack perfectly matches the flare of the nut, wouldn't that be true of any offset?? Quote
G-spotter Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 Well - no. Imagine if they were a complete triangle in cross-section.... I think it's the curve at the back bottom that really fucks them up, though. I have two (the #2 and #4) and i find normal RPs sit way better in squamish cracks and pin scars than either of these. But there are two places I've found where the Peenuts seem to fit better. One on Leviticus just below the dihedral, and one on Rock On at the start of the crux pitch. Quote
dan_forester Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 I've had a set of the peanuts for a while and like them a lot for pin scars. Looking forward to getting some of DMM's larger aluminum offsets whenever they come out...anyone seen them yet? Quote
underworld Posted April 17, 2008 Author Posted April 17, 2008 (edited) seems like they keep pushing out the date. i've only seen them offered on mtntools? there's this... Edited April 17, 2008 by underworld Quote
catbirdseat Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 My experience with Peanuts has not been positive. They don't seem to fit many cracks. Many times I've seen a flared placement where I'll slot one and be disappointed with it. I'll put a standard taper in it and it will usually work better. Quote
catbirdseat Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 I was in the Nomad shop at Joshua Tree and they had in several sets of the DMM Allow Offset nuts. They were $75 for a set of 5, but I sprung for them and I wasn't disappointed. They really are nifty. Quote
Ishmael Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 I have had a set of Peanuts for about 6 years and have used a lot at index. I think that they work great... Quote

Mgear does as well. Link Quote
catbirdseat Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Bill you should always post a disclaimer whenever you say, "I have two sets of 'em". It should read, "Warning: Gearwhore. This person has two sets of EVERYTHING." Quote
billcoe Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 True dat, but Im only gonna get one iphone:-).....promise! Quote
G-spotter Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 There's only one brand of nuts that I have doubles of. Quote
catbirdseat Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 The brass ones? The ones that chime when you swagger? Quote
JosephH Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 On the larger DMM Allow Offsets I had to epoxy the nuts to the wires to replicate the originals. Before that, the wire was just so damn slick it was pretty hard to clean them as the wire would just pushed through the nut and the nut would stay put. Quote
catbirdseat Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Epoxy-n ow there is a great idea. On all of my offsets, the nut slides up the wire so you have to pull it down before you can set the nut- not the most convenient thing when you are gripped. Quote
