Mal_Con Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 Whew, that's a relief I thought we would have to wait til 2012. Quote
AlpineK Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 Actually I believe there's a few Russian folks hunkering down in caves right now. They claim the end of the world is this month and god wants them to pass judgement on all of us. Â Don't make any big plans for next month Quote
olyclimber Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 YOU'LL ALL BE SORRY! DON'T SAY I DIDN'T WARN YOU. Quote
Dechristo Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 The world ends every day for about 275,000 people. Quote

hafilax Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 []That's hilarious! The author states that some string theories predict black hole formation at the LHC but that Hawking radiation is unproven. Not one shred of new physics has come from string theory but more can be said of the work of Hawking. He then jumps to the assumption that the black holes will be formed and that they won't radiate. Â Some new physics had better come out of the LHC or some heads will roll. It's a multi billion dollar industry so there's some serious pressure to achieve some results. Down with the Standard Model! denalidave Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 Who wants some koolaid? I do, I do. More koolaid please. Tastes kinda funky though. Quote
G-spotter Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 So, um, higher energy collisions occur all the time when cosmic rays hit the lunar surface. No permanent black holes up there, just helium-3. Go figure. Quote
hafilax Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 I could really use some of that helium-3 right now! Quote
G-spotter Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 I could really use some of that helium-3 right now! Â Can you make me shoes that focus the reverse Casimir effect? I have some files on a high shelf I need to get without a ladder. Â http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/08/070806091137.htm Quote
