grtmtnchic Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 I'm trying to take advantage of end-of-season deals to put together an AT setup. I have Dynafit boots and am looking at Dynafit bindings, but would like some suggestions on skis. Also, if you've seen any spectacular deals out there anywhere. Thanks! Quote

rbw1966 Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 I love my Mt Bakers. They're mounted with dynafit vertical STs and I use dynafit boots as well. I am extremely happy with them. I got my Mt. Baker's new for half price. Good luck finding any bargains on dynafit bindings though. Quote
jclark Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 Dynafit vertical Ft's with Atomic RT 86 ski's...sublime Quote
chris Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 I have a pair of Shuksans and Mt. Bakers. My Shuksans are one step down in ize for what I normally ski, and I use them for long tours wear I start considering weight or spring conditions. I use my Mt. Bakers for single day trips or mid-winter fresh snow. I have Dynafits on both, and use a pair of Mega-Ride boots. I couldn't be happier with both! Quote
MisterMo Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Another for Shuksans, in all snow conditions. In fairness I have only limited basis for comparison. I want to take a run or two on some Baker (lights?) but am not having much luck finding them as demos. Quote
Plinko Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 Can you ski? Whats your skill level, and where do intend to use these? Quote
grtmtnchic Posted March 26, 2008 Author Posted March 26, 2008 Can you ski? Whats your skill level, and where do intend to use these? Most experienced @ XC, newer to alpine, fairly conservative skier, plan to use them at both resort and BC. Quote
DBP Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 go with BD kilowatt or verdicts. Both light and killer in all conditions. Deals may be an issue but well worth the money Quote
Ken_p Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 Kilowatts! Kilowatts ! I love the holy hell out of mine . Have used them in all conditions and find them capable of taking all I can throw at 'em. Fairly light, quick turning for fatter ski, and work as well on piste as in the BC. And you can find 'em us outdoor store fairly cheap. Quote
AlpineK Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Another for Shuksans, in all snow conditions. In fairness I have only limited basis for comparison. I want to take a run or two on some Baker (lights?) but am not having much luck finding them as demos. I've skied on a pair of Shuksans at the resorts and on some longer backcountry trips. In all of these situations Shuksans rock. Quote
btowle Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 I demo'd Shuksans but ended up buying World Piste with Dynafit boots and bindings. A year ago I found some new dynafit bindings with wide brakes on Ebay for $200 and so I looked for skis. I bought BD Verdicts. They were last years version. The people that I ski with commented that it seemed like I skied better this year. I took credit, but I suspect it is the Verdicts. I am really liking them. Quote
fettster Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 I haven't been able to find the 174 Shuksan's anywere. Anyone else had luck? Quote
fettster Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 BTW, best deal I've spotted for Shuksans is $320 at REI, but only for the 167s: http://www.rei.com/product/758770 Quote
grtmtnchic Posted March 27, 2008 Author Posted March 27, 2008 Ok, so that brings up another question I had...sizing. I normally use a 150cm ski (I'm 5'5" & 135), but Shuksan recommends someone of my size use a 167cm. ?? Quote

jared_j Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 This seller wants a lot, but maybe you could talk them down: 153 Shuksans on Seattle's Craiglist Quote
NateF Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 This seller wants a lot, but maybe you could talk them down: 153 Shuksans on Seattle's Craiglist sheesh, those are the slightly older version they're trying to sell for more than retail... Quote
jared_j Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 This is frequently the problem with CL - people frequently have a higher personal value on the item than the market does. Quote
