lizard_brain Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Had it last week. Had to go a week without running. Went snowshoeing last weekend as the sinus funk was tapering off. I'm fine this week, but have to get back up to my previous running distance & mileage. I was lucky - got over it fast. It was all over my office this last month or so, and I was one of the last ones to succumb to it's deadly grip. Quote
Lionel_Hutz Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 (edited) Moderators, would you please set up a seperate "I Like Sun Injury, Ailment, and Mental Health" Forum. Thanks. Edited February 1, 2008 by Lionel_Hutz Quote
rmncwrtr Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Feel better ILS! Listen to Muffy! Add honey and lemon to the tea. There's some really nasty stuff going around so take care of yourself. I was in the ER with my 9 yo on Tuesday night. She was having difficulty breathing. A local urgent care had diagnosed her with viral bronchitis that morning, but didn't prescribe her an inhaler. I called them back after talking with a couple of people who had experience with it, but they said all she needed was the Prednisone. Now my 7 yo is coming down with a similar cough. No skiing for us this weekend Quote
G-spotter Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 I haven't had even a sniffle since I started supplementing with 2,000 IU Vit. D/day. Quote
archenemy Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 I haven't had even a sniffle since I started supplementing with 2,000 IU Vit. D/day. How long have you been doing that? I just read an article that talked about this very thing and about how folks in the NW don't get enough sun and vit D and that there are a lot of illnesses that may be tied to this. I am very interested in this. Quote
G-spotter Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Since October. It was the big article in Scientific American that confirmed it for me though. Quote

archenemy Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Since October. It was the big article in Scientific American that confirmed it for me though. That's the one I was referring to! OK, I am getting on the wagon with that. Any specific D suppl you suggest? Quote
Recycled Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 That looks really interesting. I think I'll try it too. Thanks for the tip Dru. Quote
JayB Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Since October. It was the big article in Scientific American that confirmed it for me though. Sounds similar to the results they found with vitamin-A and vitamin-A deficiency in children in parts of Asia. Ligands for nuclear-receptors that can turn a particular subset of genes on in a massive-way. Probably best to steer clear of mega doses. Quote

G-spotter Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 I take straight Vit D rather than fish oil, and I pop 2 generic 1000 IU tabs per day - not both at once, but staggered, one with breakfast and one with dinner. Once the UV index goes over 3 I'll get my D from sunshine instead. Quote
Recycled Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 I wish I would have known to try that when my kid was just starting school. I had always been health as a horse, but when he was 3-6 I was continually reeling from all the viruses. My immune system is just now recovering. Quote
G-spotter Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 It's important to realze that even maxi-doses of Vit D aren't going to be a panacea, otherwse ppl who live in the tropics and get sun all year round would never get sick. Quote
i_like_sun Posted February 2, 2008 Author Posted February 2, 2008 Thanks Muffs! I went to the doc today and he's got me on an antibiotic run for the next few days. Modern drugs are CRAZY.....I took my first two pills 7 hours ago and my fever has already dropped down. Its been my experience that antibiotics work amazingly fast. Quote
i_like_sun Posted February 2, 2008 Author Posted February 2, 2008 People in Thailand never get sick, though Thats because they have the worlds most AMAZING hospitals and medical care. And its dirt cheap. Quote
