Why does cultural history give someone the right to a double standard?

 

You mean after all the mean horrible wretched unspeakable things we did to some of these folks, after agreeing to allow this kind of thing with them: we should reneg now and offer these people welfare stamps instead?

 

If you are so upset, why not take up the cause with the Japanese who are sending factory ships out still. The horror and scale of that kind of industrial fishing and the indescrimant killing of other species is shocking.

Killing a creature that will swim right up to your boat and allow you to scratch its belly doesn't seem very sporting - or right.

 

There was a great story on Fresh Air (NPR) yesterday about how grey whales used to attack whaling ships because they were in the habit of going after her calves first to try and attract the mothers. They would subsequently kill them. Since the ban on killing these whales things have improved. Now they're coming up to these fishermen's boats out of curiousity and in some cases getting their head's scratched. sickie

Who gives a shit whether or not these people get to "keep their herritage"! This is 2007! Making a higher mammal suffer a slow and painfull death just because some guys are Douche Bags is wrong!

 

Yeah killing off the Native Americans was absolutely disgusting, but times are DIFFERENT. They don't NEED to kill whales to survive, its just fun. Do some fucking dancing and chanting if you want to keep your culture. Leave the whales ALONE.

They kinda do need them to survive. I don't know if you saw the slide show, but not a whole lot grows there in the snow. Mostly just meat.

heres the thing, indians hunting and fishing rights.. yes by all means, but they should not be able to sell any of what they take, there rights should extend to what they need to eat. thier comercail rights should be the same as every other american. with limits and standards on what can be hunted and netted excusivly to sell, and they should be required to get permits and licences like every one else.
