scottgg Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 Anybody know how to do this? I know there have been threads on this in the past, but I couldnt find 'em! Thanks Quote
Weekend_Climberz Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 Here's one link, but it doesn't provide much information other than it's not possible: linky Most people I've seen with them modified have used some sort of pipe hangar/rope thimble modified via a hacksaw and hammer. Apparently, BD decided not to make a fang or strike attachment since they would have had to modify the design of the tool Quote
olyclimber Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 here is the thread http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Board=9&Number=539885&Searchpage=1&Main=39863&Words=fang&topic=0&Search=true#Post539885 Quote
G-spotter Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 Mr Jones went leashless long before it was fashionable... ask him? Quote
dbconlin Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 I saw a Viper Fang modified to fit a Cobra. Worked really well. He told me he just started reomoving material from the Fang where it didn't fit and kept doing so until it did. Sounded pretty simple and the end result looked/worked great. What is his name, Kurt? He lives in Spokane or Pullman and Kurt Hicks, NYC007, pup_on_the_mountain, and I climbed with him at Banks. Quote

He told me he just started reomoving material from the Fang where it didn't fit and kept doing so until it did. his name was steve. it does work well. just go slowly is what i've been told by lots of folks because if you remove too much then you have to get a new Fang and start all over. tthirloway Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 Not that it will help you much Scott, but sometime this year BD is supposed to come out with a new Cobra that will have a fang attachment. Quote
Mark_Husbands Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 I just added fangs to my cobras with a dremel. not at all hard. seems totally stable enough for my purposes. Quote
Davis Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 I used mine on and off for about a year--there is no quality issue and I yarded on mine pretty severely. I just personally like not having them on the bottom of what I consider my alpine tools. In the reasonable future, I am going to get some dedicated leashless tools so I am not using the fangs anymore. Quote
