kevbone Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 If anybody want to tackle this. In the context of climbing. I would say if you can reach it, it’s on. Correct? If you say climb this but don’t use this hold or that. That would be contrived??? Quote
StevenSeagal Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 Please define "contrived"????? Any attempt you make at being witty. Quote
catbirdseat Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 Contrived is what you might call a route you aren't good enough to climb, instead referring to it as not worth climbing. Quote

kevbone Posted September 18, 2006 Author Posted September 18, 2006 (edited) Please define "contrived"????? Any attempt you make at being witty. I would agree with this, if I was trying to be funny, but as you know, i am not funny. So would you agree with my definition? Edited September 18, 2006 by kevbone Quote
kevbone Posted September 18, 2006 Author Posted September 18, 2006 I had a discussion with a fellow climber about a crack climb at the local crag a while ago. Whereas he tried to tell me I was not climbing the climb. There is a feature within reach for your foot. He was purposely not using the feature. I tried to tell him, if you don’t use it, you are contriving the climb. Hence, if you can reach it, it’s on. If you don’t climb the easiest way, once again you are contriving it. Quote
StevenSeagal Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 I would agree with this, if I was trying to be funny, but as you know, i am not funny. So would you agree with my definition? Last I checked, witty does not necessarily mean funny. Proving you have your head up your ass and don't even know the meaning of the terms you are throwing around. All of which solidifies my original definition. Quote

catbirdseat Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 In all seriousness, the word contrived means "planned". So if you impose special rules about what features are in and what are out, the route can be said to be contrived. You win your bet. Quote
kevbone Posted September 18, 2006 Author Posted September 18, 2006 You win your bet. Was I betting? Quote
kevbone Posted September 18, 2006 Author Posted September 18, 2006 You should have bet. Now thats funny! and yes I should have. Quote

You know this to be true. Why else would you not be able to respond like an adult? No, you're using words incorrectly and in a manner that shows your ignorance of the nuances of the English language, Bucko. The rest of your post is so decidedly un-Zen I will not dignify it with a response. No verbal response that is; you're On Deadly Ground. Gaper. Quote
kevbone Posted September 18, 2006 Author Posted September 18, 2006 you're On Deadly Ground. SS, how could I stay made at you. Every time you incorporate your glorious movies into the topic, I just have to laugh. Ha Ha. Your right, Im an corn, but I did not contrive the route!!!! Quote

JayB Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Any route that people generally rope-up for that includes a sit-start and/or holds/features that are "off" = a contrived route. Quote
