Knottygirl Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 I'm curious if anybody else is aggravated that meadows is closing almost a month early! I've heard rumors that the forest service is forcing them to because of an enviromental violation. I recieved a letter form the VP of Meadows saying its because it cost them too much to run empty chairs and nobody rides or skis after March. Quote
DirtyHarry Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 You might actually have to venture into the backcountry. The horror. Quote

Knottygirl Posted March 9, 2006 Author Posted March 9, 2006 Yes, it would be awesome to go backcountry, personally I'm not experienced enough for it as this is my first committed year of riding. Quote
Knottygirl Posted March 10, 2006 Author Posted March 10, 2006 Ahhh, that hurts! ex-skier gone boarder! Quote
DirtyHarry Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Its a disease that is sometimes caught later in life. My condolences. Quote
mellsbells Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 It's too flat, plus you shouldn't support them. Ask Winter:) Quote
RogerJ Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 I've had more days skiing or snowboarding this year (and in more places) than in years gone by and yet to buy a lift ticket this season. Â I am completely sold on backcountry skiing or splitboaring. Â -r Quote
Weekend_Climberz Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Â I actually bought a lift ticket once this year. I was so embarassed I didn't even take the backing off and put it on a wire to hang from my jacket. After the trip I immediately threw it away and mentioned none of the affair to anyone I ski with. I'm only posting this as part of my 12 step recovery plan...admitting it is the first step. Quote
Cobra_Commander Posted March 11, 2006 Posted March 11, 2006 Lift skiing is fun. A lot of fun. I had a phenomenal, deep day today on the lifts, bombing down steep, loaded terrain. I repeat lift skiing is fun. Â That said, who wants to be skiing the lifts in April? April is one of those months where you can't figure out what you want do because there are so many options. Steep corn skiing? Check. Long ski tours with easy travel? Check. Alpine climbing? Check. Sunny cragging? Check. Lift skiing falls by the wayside once the storms stop rolling in. But while it's storming, you can't beat a quiet day on the lifts! Quote
jeffh Posted March 11, 2006 Posted March 11, 2006 I'll admit buying a ticket today. With snow conditions such as they are, you really can't beat a day on the upper bowl at Skibowl, at least for Hood. Seems most times it is raining there as I drive by. Add a shorter drive from pdx, less expensive ticket, and no lines makes for a great day. Quote
Knottygirl Posted March 11, 2006 Author Posted March 11, 2006 All this has left me contemplating buying a split board so I'll have more access to backcountry. I hang around with alot of tele skiers and would LOVE to try it but I can't aford it. Yesterday was awesome at the mountain! Quote
RogerJ Posted March 11, 2006 Posted March 11, 2006 Yesterday was awesome at the mountain! Â LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA Â I don't want to hear it! Â LA LA LA LA Â Stupid job Quote
Knottygirl Posted March 11, 2006 Author Posted March 11, 2006 Suddenly since they recieved this big dump of snow they might extend the season.... Quote
Mos_Chillin Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 Ahhh, that hurts! ex-skier gone boarder! Â ...and so glad of it. Â Quote
Knottygirl Posted March 21, 2006 Author Posted March 21, 2006 Not closing till the end of the month now. Quote
