Dru Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 How many years of construction experience do I need to wear a helmet while building a deck outside Ruby's Cafe? Quote
Ireneo_Funes Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 tex, you're awesome. you can hang on the deck of Ruby's cafe anytime. Quote
knotzen Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 There are alot of dumbasses on this site that either don't climb or are paranoid safety freaks (they probably climb with helmets too) Â What is the point of criticizing someone for wearing a helmet? Wearing a helmet doesn't begin to equal "paranoid safety freak." If someone is doing something stupid that makes them more vulnerable, such as stopping to put in gear every 3 feet, then sure, point it out. But why dish on someone for wearing a helmet when leading trad? It can only help, by providing a marginal measure of security in case of a fall. Quote
DirtyHarry Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 I climb with a cup. Just in case, you know. Quote
knotzen Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 There ya go. Protect what's important to ya. Quote
Dru Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 I climb with a cup. Just in case, you know. Â A C-cup? Quote
flyingkiwi1 Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 "It is understandable that a place with such clean cracks and beauty would eventually have a guidebook." Â Sharp End published "Indian Creek Climbs" in 1998. It was largely based on Marco Cornacchione's "200 Select Indian Creek" guidebook. Quote
texplorer Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 -irrelevent photos of ourselves sending our proj's at "The Creek"  -a project? I rarely project, this was no exception, in fact it was an onsite if your into that sort of thing  -irrelevant? Ruby's Cafe=small gear, my pic=small gear  OK-helmets might not be just for paranoids (I even wear them in certain situations) I feel that if you progress at a rational pace, know your abilities, place gear correctly, and watch where the rope is in relation to your feet there are rarely situations in which you will need a helmet while cragging.  Just for you DH - another irrelevant, helmetless photo Quote
Ireneo_Funes Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Is that Ashton Kutcher drinking a OE on the deck of Ruby's Cafe? Quote
DirtyHarry Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 I think I can see Demi in the can's reflection. Quote

Good for you. But you're missing the whole point of what safety gear is for. It's not for when you know you will need it - it's for when you fuck up! You, my friend, have fucked up in the past. You will fuck up in the future. You do not know when you will fuck up, but you will fuck up. Helmets provide a bit of insurance against such fuck-ups. Quote
texplorer Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 True greek, My point however was that if you are experienced enough then you can keep yourself out of situations where "fucking up" would cause serious bodily harm. In other words you can perceive the dangers before they happen. Quote
catbirdseat Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 I'll bet a lot of people could avoid catastophe if they just listened to that little voice in their head when it says, "something don't seem right here". Quote
Ireneo_Funes Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 This is going to turn into another awesome helmet debate, isn't it? Â Tex, feel free to send me all your aliens, camalots, etc, because it sounds like an omniscient dude such as yourself doesn't really need any rock pro either. Quote
Cobra_Commander Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 I firmly believe you should ask on cc.com to get the exact gear selection for every pitch you climb. It's the only way to be safe. Â AND FOR GAWD'S SAKE SLING EVERY CAM WITH SHOULDER-LENGTH RUNNERS Quote

In other words you can perceive the dangers before they happen. Â Uh, isn't that the definition of a fuck-up? Like you thought you were prepared for what was coming, got into the dire situation, and realized you were wrong? Quote
RuMR Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 ha...sounds like tex fucked up posting...better type w/ yo helmet on, bitch! Quote
Dr_Flash_Amazing Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 AND FOR GAWD'S SAKE SLING EVERY CAM WITH SHOULDER-LENGTH RUNNERS Â Â Foolhardy. You would surely die by employing such careless tactics. Better to play it safe and attach shoulder-length runners to every shoulder-length-runner-slung cam. Quote
