DPS Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 (edited) Can anyone report on the current conditions of the Cloud Cap road? Is it gated, snowed up, accessible, or what? Thank you. Edited November 16, 2005 by danielpatricksmith Quote
kurthicks Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 going down tonight, eh, Dan? My guess is that you'll be walking from the resort. Â I'm sure you saw this from another thread: As of 11/8, all Cloudcap gates are still open - 4wd recommended. Today I reached the upper gate(ca. 4700'), but saw a couple other rigs get stranded. Major windfall on the road a couple of hundred yards past upper gate, plus significantly more snow higher... Â Hiked up to Cloudcap TH: A couple of feet of powder under a crust from Sat pm. Floatation would be helpful above 5500'... Quote
Winter Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 Just for information, a lot of folks have been putting in time getting the Polallie Ridge trail in shape. Its often a far better approach to the A-Frame then the TJ trail. Check it out if you have time. Quote
rbw1966 Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 Chris is right--that trail is way better, faster and more direct. Quote
Chad_A Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 Ok, I haven't heard of that trail. Where does it start from? Quote
kadyakerbob Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 yeah were does that trail start at? Quote
Winter Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 If you start up the TJ Trail from the lower parking area, you first get to the junction with the cutoff that comes in from the ski area. If you look here, there is actually a third trail that heads up and left through the woods. That's the Polallie Ridge trail. You can also pick it up at the top of the ski area. Â It isn't difficult to find. Go check it out. Its a better approach option. Quote
letsroll Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 thanks for the info on Polallie ridge trail, will use it next time (with any luck next weekend . I hate going up the ski trail. Last year I should have used crapons on the ski trail it was so icy, sucked much A@#. Can't wait to ski the whole thing for the fist time. Quote
