matt_warfield Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 Hey Colin: I met Bruce Miller this past Sun. 9/18 climbing in Boulder Canyon. He was with some guy named Rolando G. and they were walking up 5.12s. That probably would be 5.13 Yosemite trad guy Bruce Miller and Naked Edge free solo (climbing rag ad) guy Rolondo Garibotti. And of course they climb hard in the mountains as well. Quote
Gary_Yngve Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 Hey Colin, Any tricks you do regarding coiling, feeding out a bag/pack, etc.? My limited experience of rapping on 6mm perlon was a complete tanglefest. Quote
Marko Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 Gary, I've had pretty good luck stuffing 6mm cord into a gaitor and/or into a jacket front, and then pulling it out while rapping. Quote
dbb Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 Are you guys rapping on a single strand of rope and using the cord to retrieve a jammed knot (at the anchor) or having both strands go through the device? Quote
Marko Posted October 1, 2005 Posted October 1, 2005 Both. The 'fat' rope takes basically all the weight, but the 6mm also threads through the rappel device. I haven't used the Techcord for rapping, but I imagine it's somewhat less user friendly going through the rappel device. Quote
jordop Posted October 2, 2005 Posted October 2, 2005 ?Where please to buy tech cord in 60m lengths? POssible to just tape a few Maxim spools together? Masking or scotch? Quote
Colin Posted October 3, 2005 Posted October 3, 2005 Jordan, we can order 60m spools of techcord for you here at Pro Mountain Sports. However, be warned that it is quite expensive (more than a 60m dynamic rope), and it is the type of item for which you would have to pre-pay. Quote
Stefan Posted October 3, 2005 Posted October 3, 2005 Steve and Vince's story: http://www.grivelnorthamerica.com/headlines.php?id=33 Talk about hardass. Here is a quote: "There, at 8,000 meters. Steve took off his his boots to dry off his socks in the sun and Vince took a 5 minute nap." Sounds fricken balmy at 8000 meters. Quote
