susan Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 Has anyone been up in the Tantalus Range recently? I was wondering what condition the Tantalus Ridge route might be in. Thanks. Quote
fern Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 the new hut is being built right now up there. So lots of people have been in there and will be in there. (not me though) here's some info on the hut, and there is a photo album with pictures of the area from may. http://www.jimhaberlfund.org/tantalushut/news.htm Quote
jordop Posted June 28, 2005 Posted June 28, 2005 I think the bouncer would kick me out if I tried to stay in that thing Nothing like the sketchy shacks you stumble across in the woods with the "Trevor would do it" stickers and the booby trapped door Quote
dberdinka Posted June 28, 2005 Posted June 28, 2005 That's so friggin awesome! To bad The place is now going to get overrun. Quote
Dru Posted June 28, 2005 Posted June 28, 2005 Doubtful, there just aren't hordes of heli-mountaineers. Â Too $pendy. Quote
Stemalot Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 I bet someone is going to make it into a commercial operation taking advantage of the 2010 Olympic tourists by flying people up there and offer nice meals...hum...maybe I should do this! Quote
peas Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 Just in case you're thinking of hiking in and using the cable car crossing, the Squamish First Nation just recently gated the spur road that leads to the cable car. Quote
jmace Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 acess just gets better and better in squamish,I think I paid 300$ for two people one way to the base of tantalus N ridge a couple of summers ago. Quote
Zoran Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 (edited) SN people charge $35 per person to cross the river in their boat (road is gated but they allow access.) Edited June 30, 2005 by Zoran Quote
jmace Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 what does that get you, past the gate, they should put me across the river as well Quote
Zoran Posted June 30, 2005 Posted June 30, 2005 (edited) Frank W. Baumann: " Access to Lovely Water spur road: Squamish Nation is planning to build a new longhouse on this road, which will likely result in it being permanently gated. This may start as early as the summer of 2005. In the good old days, we would always take the time to stop and ask the late Fergie Lewis at Cheakamus for permission to cross the reserve land. Some of these common courtesies no longer seem to be observed, which is not helping to maintain a good relationship with some of the First Nations people. Another sore point with them is how fast people drive through Cheekye community on their way to either the Cheakamus or Squamish Valley- there are many children in that community, and so it is important to respect the speed limit; it is not a backroad. Zoran Posted June 30, 2005 Posted June 30, 2005 Blair Mitten: " Squamish River Crossing: I just heard from Jay the ferry operator across the Squamish River. (604-898-9574). The branch road to the river crossing has been gated by the native band adding a portage to any party wanting to use their own craft to cross the river. He now leaves from Brackendale at 0900 and 1600 by reservation. The fee is $35 per person. " Quote
PaulB Posted June 30, 2005 Posted June 30, 2005 I just heard from Jay the ferry operator across the Squamish River.... You can read about my experience with Mr. Bicknell and his ferry service here. YMMV Quote
