jon Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 If you have registered with cc.com or plan on registering, please either change your email to one other than Hotmail or use one other than Hotmail. It recently occured to me that after tons of support emails about people not getting registration info and retrieving login information, that they were all coming from Hotmail. While it's not entirely clear to me why this is happening, it is clear that the email is not getting through. If you are looking for an alternative to Hotmail I highly recommend Gmail, it is hands down better than anything else I have used. Quote
robert Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 If cascadeclimbers.com is on the safe list the emails do get through. If not, they go to junk. If you do want a gmail account you need to find someone who has one and can invite you or get on the information list. Quote
mec Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 name your best price and show me the money, or I may just give you one if you want it... Quote
tomtom Posted May 16, 2005 Posted May 16, 2005 If you are looking for an alternative to Hotmail I highly recommend Gmail, it is hands down better than anything else I have used. Gmail? Not me. Quote
jon Posted May 16, 2005 Author Posted May 16, 2005 That article is totally alarmist and FUD. The guy writing that probably has 100 spyware programs installed and is having $10.67 taken out of his checking account every month without even knowing it because he is too worried about who could potentially read their email. The reality is anyone can read you email if they really wanted to. Quote
tomtom Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 Well, yes. But the basic facts are true. Google reads your email and inserts ads based on the words found in the text. This was news to me. Quote
jon Posted May 17, 2005 Author Posted May 17, 2005 They make it pretty clear when you sign up that is what is going on. I personally don't have a problem with it, because while I'm sure they are collecting all sorts of demographic data from people they aren't invading their privacy. If Osama was replying to an email and he clicked on "Free Al'Q3ada tRain1ng manu4l with order of C'ial;is" and they reported that...... I'd be fine with that! Quote
MatthewS Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 I tried registering earlier in the week with a Hotmail account and I didn't get any mail - then I realized that Hotmail filters automated messages into the "Junk E-mail" bin. So if you're using Hotmail you have to check in the junk folder to get your password. Or better, as others suggested, get a new e-mail account. Quote
thelawgoddess Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 hotmail sucks. yahoo's junk mail filtering works much better! Quote
billcoe Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Hotmail generally sucks. So does mail.com. I have no personal knowledge of yahoo mail but it has to be better than Hotmail and mail.com. I'll take google matching my interests up to targeted ads so that I get out of the way invites to climbing related crap any day - instead of 2,000 "viagra" ads, 2,300 "make money at home" pop-ups, and 14,230 "enlarge your penis" ads spashed on the screen every 15 min. I have exactly 99 gmail invites I can give out. If anyone wants a free account just e-mail billcoe@gmail.com and I'll respond as soon as I see it with an invite and you can have gmail. Until I run out of invites anyway. It's first come first served so step up now. I'll only expect solid belays in return. When I started storage was an unheard of huge 1 gb, now currently, I heard that storage is at 3 gb, but google lists it at 2.5gb...........and it's still growing. ________________________________________________________ BTW, that penis enlarger thing doesn't work so don't bother, and don't think you can buy 3 and make it 3 times as big either cause it won't, sorry to say. TREETOAD Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 There is no doubt that yahoo mail rules. no spam whatsoever, period. Quote
