kurthicks Posted March 22, 2005 Posted March 22, 2005 Da grasslands are always free, just a little out of your way. Or you could car bivy at the Crooked River rest area (Ogden, I think)...heated bathrooms and water. Quote
corvallisclimb Posted March 23, 2005 Author Posted March 23, 2005 ya, im not going to smith, just need a place as close to bend as possible. and all of my friends there have left for "spring break". Quote
Tyler Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 There is Tumalo State Park outside of Bend on Hwy 20. Fore USFS campgrounds, visit: http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/centraloregon/recreation/campgrounds/map-bendredmond.shtml and http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/centraloregon/recreation/campgrounds/camp-name.shtml If you had to, you could just pitch your tent somewhere in the Deschutes National Forest... There's also the Bend Youth Hostel, and I hear the new McMenamins downtown has some hostel style accomodations. Quote
Ricardo_Montalban Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 corvyclimb, you should be house sitting your friends place! the hostel is gone...or at least it moved. (i'm referring to the one near town on century drive) that was a super cheap place to crash, and the tweaker who ran it was always entertaining. Quote
bunglehead Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 A word of warning: If you camp in the DNF, you may get rousted. And There are a lot more squatters camps out in the woods these days. Personally I'd spend the money on Tumalo State park. Or if you have to there's a KLA past the Y on the road to Redmond. They used to have a grassy areas for tents. And there's always the free campground in Sisters. Out of the way, but free! Quote
rbw1966 Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Why would you get rousted for camping in the DNF? Quote
Ireneo_Funes Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Yeah, I thought you could pretty much camp anywhere in the Nat'l Forests for as long as you wanted. I knew some guys who were camping in the Deschutes NF for a couple of months while they worked a construction job in Bend. Quote
goatboy Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Pretty sure different Nat'l Forests have different management plans and policies for this, especially so close to a metropolitan area like Bend . . . . Quote
Alex Posted March 28, 2005 Posted March 28, 2005 You can legally camp in any national forest, anywhere as long as its further than 400 ft from an established campground. However, try to use that on Larry the Tool and it probably wont work. Alex Quote
