Blake Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 I vaguely remember catching an afternoon matinee viewing of some mountain climbing movie on Portland's old KPTV channel 12, this was probably 10 years ago at least. I can barely remember anything, but i've got an image in my mind of some kind of tragedy (plane crash?), two main male characters, and a name like "The summit" or "The Climb". Anyone have a clue what this was? Quote
slothrop Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 Yeah, was it a pretty old movie? I saw it, some pretty decent climbing footage, with a gnarly chimney. The Mountain, with Spencer Tracy, that's it... from 1956. Quote
lancegranite Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 don't forget Bob Wagner as the evil brother... Quote
Ireneo_Funes Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 I saw a really bad movie called "The Climb" on TV a couple years ago; it might be the one you're thinking of. It was about 2 climbers who because of a sponsorship or something become partners, despite their very different personalities. Â Also, one is black and the other white. Â And one believes in Jesus and the other one doesn't. The movie was produced by Billy Graham, I think. Â Did I mention that it was really, really bad? Oh yeah, I did. Quote
chris_w Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 I remembering seeing that one. It was really really bad. I'd rather watch cliffhanger, in russian. Quote
bunglehead Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 I LOVE Cliffhanger. There's so much wrong with that movie I wouldn't even know where to begin. But I do like the part at the beginning where the chick's BD harness buckle folds like a piece of cheap lawn furniture. Classic. Quote
ChrisT Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 yep Stallone pre-plastic surgery but sporting the rug anyway Quote
whirlwind Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 cliff hanger was the reason i started climbing, mostly cause i was hoping to hook up with some hot betties Quote
selkirk Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 Â Because we all know climbers are surrounded by lots of hot . How's that been workin out for ya? Quote
gmoney Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 It was "Journey to the top of the world". My favorite part is where Spencer just grabs on to the rope REAL HARD to stop a fall and the rope cuts into his hands leaving the rope all bloody.... Â Put ol' Pete Schoening's ice axe belay to shame. Quote
minx Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 (edited) Â Because we all know climbers are surrounded by lots of hot . How's that been workin out for ya? Â hey now! i've climbed with wirlwind. what are you implying? hmmm? Edited March 18, 2005 by minx Quote
